I have been studying guitar privately for 27 years, have taught for 20 years and I am qualified to teach jazz/pop/rock guitar, improvisation, and theory. I graduated from the music performance program at Queensborough Community College. At Q.C.C. I was fortunate to receive formal training in ear training/ sight singing I-IV, music theory I-IV, convocation performance, performance juries, as well as receiving private lessons focused on jazz improvisation. I was also trained in the fundamentals of piano I-IV and can help beginning piano students if called upon. (I'm familiar with the ABRSM for piano up till grade 3). I majored in guitar performance concentrating on jazz improvisation but I also have been studying guitar privately for around 27 years with a strong emphasis on rock and pop. My father is a professional musician and music teacher in the U.K and this afforded many performance and learning opportunities from an early age, by the age of 16 I was already wearing a suit and tie, playing with his 'function' band at weddings and was also fortunate to experience musician theatre pit work.

During my time studying at Q.C.C. I enjoyed working as a music tutor for college level music theory students.

My tuition brings:

Personalized, well prepared, fun and practical lessons.

Continuation, each class builds on previously learned material.

Progress checks using memos taken during teaching.

My students know me for my patience, detail, and positive reinforcement, but also equally for placing importance on helping the student find his/her joy through the instrument.

Prior to studying at Q.C.C I lived in South Korea for 7 years where I studied as a meditation monk. This monastic period of my life gifted me with lots of diverse and valuable experiences, ranging from leading Buddhist/meditation classes for kids/teens/college to learning to converse in Korean at a high level.

After returning to lay life, I still teach meditation once a week in New Jersey and am raising two teenage step sons aged 14 and 18 with my

I have been playing guitar for 27 years. I received private lessons in my formative years and more recently completed 3 years of formal education in Q.C.C's revamped music performance program. Wonderful Teacher!

As a beginner in guitar, I like the teaching style of Steve pretty much as it adjusts according to everyone's background knowledge and learning pace. The first class with Steve is really a wonderful one and I'll definitely follow Steve for future classes. I strongly recommend Steve as your guitar teacher!

Knowledgeable, organized and patient.

Steve B. is patient and knowledgeable. He listened to my interests and needs and tried to cover those items along with other things he felt would be beneficial to my learning. Very pleased with his demeanor and the pace of lessons. Very organized which helps me learn.

Well Versed, Adaptive, Incredible Tutor

Steve is an extremely knowledgeable, super chill guy who is fantastic at listening to and understanding his students needs. He has a solution for almost every question, and when he doesn't he has no problem letting you know and always remembering to address it in the next lesson. You can tell how experienced he is through his effortless teaching style and I would highly recommend him to anyone wishing to learn guitar.

Best guitar teacher we've ever had!

Steve is great with kids! My eleven-year-old son is very appreciative of Steve’s patience and respectful demeanor. He said that if all teachers were like Steve, his life would be so much better. On a scale of 1-10, my son gives Steve a whopping 21! As a parent, I am grateful that Steve somehow manages to make it fun for my kid who is definitely not musically/artistically inclined. Steve is definitely a blessing in our lives because he brings the beautiful wonder of music and he manages to do it in such a positive manner.

Very prepared. Very personalized

I’m just getting started with Steve (3 lessons), but am really impressed on how well he has gotten to know my playing habits and how he prepares the next lesson to build in the last. A plus is that I’m pretty new to guitar and he doesn’t make me feel that way. Great guy. Highly recommend.

Awesome guitar lessons for 12-year old

My daughter LOVES her lessons with Steve, and has made great progress after just a couple of sessions. We'll keep going - it's the highlight of her week during the lockdown! Highly recommend Steve - he's a great teacher and knows how to talk to and engage kids.

Steve B. Guitar Lesson

Steve is such a kind, patient, and funny guy! Had my first guitar lesson online with him for 1 hour and he taught me a lot in that time! He was very patient when it came to stuff I didn’t really understand or had questions on!
