About Benjamin

I present myself as a reliable worker with great attention to detail, a mature work ethic, and a passion for learning. I have earned a BA in Psychology (with focus upon child and adolescent development) from SUNY Fredonia, and an AS in Individual Studies from Jamestown Community College's Human Services program. Furthermore, I am one semester away from the attainment of my NYS Initial Teaching certification (with a Geo-science concentration) from SUNY Fredonia, with a GPA of 3.20. My personal interests and endeavors involve the sciences, specifically Physical Science and Astronomy-Astrophysics.

I have developed a broad base of experience while working in various vocations and programs, as a manager, tutor / mentor / counselor, substitute teacher, Family Support Worker for the Gowanda Central School District, and currently as a Teacher Aide in the Fredonia Middle School, whereat I frequently work 1:1 with students who have IEP's and are in inclusive classroom settings.

The majority of my academic studies and Human Services experience is in working with school-age persons. I am a patient instructor, who is equipped to employ various approaches and teaching strategies to meet the specific needs of my student(s). I truly enjoy working with and assisting students (of all demographics) to achieve their full academic, and personal, potential.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I currently am working on completing a BA in Childhood Inclusive Education; additionally, I hold two other, relevant college degrees: an AAS in Human Services, and a BA in Psychology. I have extensive Substitute Teaching experience, and formerly worked as a Teacher Aide, and After School Assistant at two separate WNY Middle Schools (grades 5-8), and most recently at an Elementary (grades K-4) Buffalo Charter School.

Special Needs

In addition to my current pursuit of initial certification in Inclusive Childhood Education, I have also earned an AAS in Human Services (Social Work / Counseling), and a BA in Psychology. My Human Services coursework, and Psychology coursework were focused upon the needs of the Childhood, and Adolescent populations. Furthermore, I have extensive para-professional experience working with "Special Needs" students; who typically could be, or have been, diagnosed with an "Autism Spectrum" disorder (formerly classified / referred to as "Asperger's"). Most typically, I have worked 1:1 with students diagnosed with ODD and/or ADD/ADHD.

Study Skills

I currently hold two college degrees: (AAS Human Services, and BA Psychology), and currently am working on completing a BA in Childhood Inclusive Education. All of the aforementioned endeavors were accomplished when I returned to college, (after the age of 30). I have extensive Substitute Teaching experience, and formerly worked as a Teacher Aide, and After School Assistant. A key component of those positions required that I assist student{s} who were experiencing organizational / Study-Skills difficulties. The aforementioned activities were typically conducted 1:1 or in small-classroom, group settings. As a "Non-Traditional" student", it became imperative that I develop and maintain productive Study-Skills/Habits, focus, and time-management. Furthermore, I have three school aged children of my own, thus adding additional insight to the necessity of developing proper "Study Skills".
