About Ryan

My philosophy as a teacher is to create a warm and encouraging atmosphere where taking a risk doesn't feel like taking a risk. My goal is to help the student understand the foundations of acting so that they can develop confidence and grow in their artistry, and find their voice as an actor.

Currently, I teach at the Penny Templeton Studio. My journey there began as an actor where I studied under master teacher Penny Templeton for six years. Three years ago she asked if I was interested in helping build an acting program for young actors ages 13 to 19. I jumped at the opportunity and now teach three separate classes at any given time of the year (Beginning and Advanced Classes, and a Summer Intensive). I also coach actors one on one, which has helped me better understand how to tailor my teaching to the individual -- different actors need different things at different times.

I teach a Stanislavsky-based technique and pull from many of the great master teachers (Adler, Strasberg, Meisner, and Hagen). For actors, and public speakers, it is all about developing authenticity, confidence, and a connection. My hope is that I can help you find that.

Outside of teaching I have been a working actor for twelve years. I've appeared on stage at the Hartford Stage Company, Long Wharf Theater, River Repertory at the Ivoryton Playhouse, and with the Meetinghouse Players. My television and film credits include "The Vampire Diaries", "Pinkville", "SubterraNYa", and "South of Hell", a new series appearing on the WE network this year.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I teach a Stanislavsky-based technique and pull from many of the great master teachers (Adler, Strasberg, Meisner, and Hagen). I currently teach four classes at the Penny Templeton Studio for beginning, intermediate and advanced actors.
