About Adi

LONG-STORY SHORT:
My name is Adi and I am a NYC, DOE certified tutor with two M.A. degrees in Education from NYU in English and Theatre Education. As a teacher and tutor, I specialize in essay writing, cover letters, college/M.A/M.B.A applications, reading comprehension, test preparation, homework assistance, presentation skills, and both verbal and written language development (English and Hebrew). I have worked with people of all ages (from toddlers to senior citizens) and am extremely patient, efficient, and passionate about my work.

The process of comprehending and retaining new information, as well as learning new skills, is different for each student; therefore, I customize my teaching approach and lesson for diverse learners. My goal is to encourage students to actively participate in the learning process and acquire the skills needed to become self-sufficient life-long learners. My approach is to foster an environment in which learning is both accessible and fun! If you would like to know more about my educational path both as a student and teacher, please read my full bio below.

OTHER SKILLS:
I am an acting coach, director, and theatre teacher. I am a SAG/AFTRA member. My bio and demo reel could be found on IMDB and NYcastings.com

I am an experienced HEBREW tutor, customizing my lessons for your individual learning objectives. I speak, read, and write Hebrew fluently. I provide vocabulary worksheets and vocal CD's each lesson so that the learner can practice their pronunciation for the following lesson, as well as the context for which the word can be used. I provide writing, reading, and speaking exercises and materials in order to teach tenses, verb conjugations, and gender choices. I believe that language acquisition is best learned through consistent practice of speaking, reading, and/or writing regularly. Therefore, I encourage learners to keep practicing in between our sessions and provide resources and vocal CD's to support that process.

THE WHOLE SCOOP:
I completed a B.A. in 2001, an M.A. in 2003, and a second M.A. in 2009 all from New York University with concentrations in Speech Communications, Educational Theater, and English Education. Although my two M.A. degrees provided me with dual certification in English (ELA) and Theatre (K-12) Education and initiated my career as a full-time NYC teacher, my passion and experience with education had already commenced at least twenty years prior. I was only a sophomore attending Townsend Harris High School (one of the most esteemed and selective high schools in New York City with a concentration in Liberal Arts) when I began working as a tutor in the "Homework Help Room" at the local Forest Hills YMHA. Throughout college I was a freelance teaching artist for a non-profit literacy program (The American Place Theatre's Literature to Life ) that allowed me to work with hundreds of students in over fifty schools around New York City. Upon completion of my first M.A. from NYU, I was hired as the Associate Education Director for Literature to Life; a job which entailed the overseeing of curriculum writing and implementation into the school system. My team and I collaborated with English teachers in activating novels being read in the classroom through various styles of writing workshop and the integration of drama into the curricula. After five years of working at APT, I decided I could better serve my students on a consistent basis as a full-time teacher. This is when I returned to NYU to receive my second M.A. with a dual certification in English and Theater. I am now a full-time teacher at a high school in Forest Hills and tutor part-time.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
