Queens College, Masters of Science in Mathematics Education (Master's)
My name is Stacy and I am a NYS High School Math Teacher.
I specialize in Algebra, Geometry, Specialized High School Entrance Exam, the SAT, and NY STATE exams (grades 6-8) but I also prepare students for Catholic Entrance Exams, and the GED's.
I enjoy tutoring because unlike classroom instruction, tutoring gives me an opportunity to pinpoint student's individual areas of weakness one-on-one and target them better and better with every session. During the first session, I look at the student's previous test results (or give a brief diagnostic) to understand where the student's abilities fit with respect to the requirements. We then generally meet twice a week to keep reinforcing new concepts and usually see gradual improvement on the next test and a much bigger improvement on the following test.
Having tutored for over 14 years, I observed that one of the main reasons students have problems with math is because they don't believe in their natural math ability. My biggest achievement with students is not only higher scores but also relieving math anxiety. I let students see for themselves that they can actually do the math. This confidence opens many more doors for them in the future.
Thanks for reading my profile and I look forward to hearing from you!
Best of luck,

From the moment I spoke to Stacy, I knew that I had found not only a great tutor, but a wonderful, loving individual. She was very helpful with my daughter who had issues with Math, with one class she was able to help my daughter understand what she was doing wrong. Look no further, I wholeheartedly recommend her as a tutor. Great communication skills, quickly responds to emails, funny but firm.
My daughter really likes Stacy. She was very patient, helpful, clear and friendly. Most of all she made her understood the Algebra perfectly. And I am very happy to know that she was very determined to help and made sure she understood it. You cannot really ask for a better tutor than her.
My daughter is 12 and was missing some important algebraic concepts she never had the chance to learn in the past. We were selecting among three best tutors and my daughter felt very comfortable and wanted to stay with Stacy after the first session. Stacy quickly determined what her gaps were and found excellent worksheets for her to practice and solidify her skills. It was obvious that Stacy is a very experienced and knowledgeable tutor. Stacy was able to answer all her questions in such a way that my daughter felt more confident in math. On my end, Stacy keeps me informed of her progress and responds to my emails and phone calls promptly. She is also very flexible and accommodating. I would highly recommend Stacy to any parent looking for a math tutor.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
It is part of my job as NYS Certified teacher to prepare for NYS regents exams. I have administered, graded and prepared students for all high school math regents since 2001. I have a very high pass rate (98%) with students I tutor.
