Queens College (Enrolled)
I have a bachelor's degree in Environmental Geology from Case Western Reserve University and am working on my master's degree in Geology at Queens College. In addition to my studies I teach Geology 101 lab sessions at Queens College. As part of my work I create lesson plans for each lab, assist the students in carrying out experiments, ensure my students understand the material by asking them critical thinking questions, and prepare them for exams by designing review activities and enforcing good study habits. In addition, I maintain a classroom atmosphere that encourages active participation and hands-on learning.
I enjoy teaching because of my passion for science and geology. I want my students to succeed in this subject and perhaps grow to enjoy it as well! My objective is to establish concrete, challenging, yet attainable goals with my students and consistently work on achieving them with each lesson. I tailor the lesson to the needs of each student I teach and am focused on breaking down complex concepts into smaller, easier to understand pieces. After those smaller ideas are understood, the bigger picture can be pieced together. I'm also a big fan of hands on learning and showing my students examples through rock or mineral samples or images.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
