About Yanping

I regularly help students ranging from grade 7 to college-aged undergrads go from survival mode to thriving mode. I am interdisciplinary and love teaching both elementary school subjects and college subjects, but I especially thrive in teaching organic chemistry, regular chemistry, and biology, calculus and physics. I also work at a center where I teach SAT/ACT test prep.

I grok well with students with learning challenges, such as ADHD (diagnosed or undiagnosed). I am a graduate of the University of Virginia with a bachelors degree in Biochemistry, with 36 credits in chemistry, 29 in biology, 27 in physics, 13 in the social sciences, 28 credits in other math, science and engineering courses. My second major and minor were physics and biology respectively. During my time at the University of Virginia, I was member of the "80s series," an accelerated honors chemistry track.

Past students of mine include: a student with ADHD who went from a 49 average to a 95 average in organic chemistry in ten weeks, a Bronx High School of Science student whose test average went from 62% to 85% in biology in five sessions, and a student whose ACT math score went from 30 to 34 in six weeks.

Hi, I'm sorry for my lateness, I was very sick and my first day of work was the day after the lesson. MTA also had many delays, shutdowns and reroutes across several lines. I didn't cancel out of compassion for your situation as you said you had an exam the next day. I worked to resolve confusion by working on concepts (derivatives and critical points).

I'm sorry if I seemed unsure - I usually review material for concepts rather than prepare explicit solutions. Semester 1 physics problems are things I am far unsure about how to do, as my intuition is very strong, rather my goal is to develop this intuition in the student. There is only so much I can accomplish in one hour.

ACT Math, Algebra 2, Calculus,

ACT Math, SAT Math

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Biology

I graduated from the University of Virginia with a degree in biochemistry. I worked in a neuroscience lab for two years, helped teach an Evolutionary Biology lab course, and have worked with cellular transport in an internship with the Department of Energy. I am currently a biotechnologist on an immunoassay prototype development team for a major R&D company.

Calculus

I have a bachelors' degree in Biochemistry. I scored the highest score (5) on my AP Calculus exam, and obtained As in both Honors Calculus II and III at UVa. I have worked in a neuroscience lab for two years and used calculus principles to drive my analysis of experimental data. I am currently a biotechnologist on an immunoassay prototype development team for a major R&D company.

Chemistry

I received my B.S. Biochemistry from the University of Virginia in 2013.

I worked in a neuroscience lab for two years, and completed a summer internship in cell biology at the Department of Energy working with gold nanorod probes and chemical functionalization.

I scored 247/250 on my Honors Organic Chemistry II final. I am currently a biotechnologist on an immunoassay prototype development team for a major R&D company.

Genetics

I hold a bachelors' degree in Biochemistry from UVA, where I scored an A in Genetics and 100% on a notoriously challenging genetics midterm. I worked two years in a Drosophila neuroscience lab, where we continuously genetically engineered knockouts and novel crosses. I am currently a biotechnologist on an immunoassay prototype development team for a major R&D company.

Organic Chemistry

I have a bachelors in Biochemistry (2013) from the University of Virginia; I was fully immersed in the accelerated chemistry track. I scored 247/250 for my organic chemistry II final under Richard Sundberg, coauthor (with Francis Carey) of an organic chemistry textbook nationally used in graduate programs, and have also studied inorganic (organometallic) chemistry. I am a currently a biotechnologist on an immunoassay prototype development team for a major R&D company.

Physics

I graduated with a minor in physics from the University of Virginia (my major was Biochemistry) in 2013. I scored a 5 on AP Physics C: Mechanics and a 4 on AP Physics C: Electricity and Magnetism in high school. My knowledge of calculus-based physics continues to inform much of my interdisciplinary research and experimental design. I am currently a biotechnologist on an immunoassay prototype development team for a major R&D company.

Great tutor! Super helpful and patient!

Helped me finish a worksheet that would've taken me forever, and helped me to really understand the material! I strongly recommend Yanping for any student struggling to understand orgo concepts
