In 2008, I earned a position with the NYC Teaching Fellowship to teach in the NYC Public Schools and through this fellowship I also completed my Master of Science in Education. Currently, I work at John Adams High School and I have had the opportunity to impact the lives of many students from diverse academic and cultural backgrounds.
I specialize in tutoring Biology, Earth Science, English, Algebra and the NYS Regents exams. I have experience tutoring all elementary or middle school subjects including reading and writing and I also enjoy motivating students to have confidence during exams. I teach students necessary test-taking and study techniques so they can reach their highest potential!
Not only are my standards high but my company is enjoyable and I make learning fun! My lessons challenge and encourage students to engage in their critical thinking skills and I pay close attention to the learning styles of each student and I adapt my lessons accordingly. I offer a free consultation meeting so that you may be able to ask any questions about my lessons, style of teaching and also provide me with any necessary information that would further assist the student in reaching his/her academic goals.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I love Algebra! Solving for 'x' can become fun and easy once you learn the calculated techniques in doing so. Practice truly does make perfect in mathematics and I would love to teach you all the content needed in order to get you ahead in Algebra, pass the regents examination or keep you up to speed with a little extra practice!
I have taught Biology (Living Environment) for the last 6 years in the NYC public schools. I have a 95% Regents passing rate with my students and I ensure that each student understands how Biology is applicable to so many real world issues. Students learn the study skills necessary to pass this regents exam and important test taking techniques needed to pass any exam! We will certainly have a great time learning this wonderful subject in a coherent and meaningful way!
I am certified to teach General Science from grades 5-9 which includes both life science and physical science. Learning elementary science is the most crucial step in a child's journey to enjoying this subject. I will make sure each student becomes fascinated with the curriculum as I have 6 years of teaching experience under my belt! We will enjoy learning the fundamentals of problem solving and the scientific method. We will learn to use the metric system and how to measure objects with simple tools. We will learn how to record accurate qualitative and quantitative observations in a science journal. We will learn the various cycles and patterns observed on Earth and in the universe. The list is endless as elementary science is a mix of the best topics of life and the physical sciences!
Microsoft PowerPoint is one of the most exciting tools offered in the office package. Not only do I use it in the classroom on a regular basis but students have so much fun presenting their projects to their peers in an creative way. I have taught many students (and teachers) to utilize PowerPoint as it provides for good entertainment, serves as an informative tool and allows students to engage in academic content in a creative way. Many students have benefited by learning how to format backgrounds, layouts and designs. They enjoy the various animations and transitions that PowerPoint offers and most importantly, this software allows students to practice their presentation and communication skills very early in their academic careers. Learning to use and become comfortable with PowerPoint will become of the most useful college ready tools!
I have been using Microsoft Word for well over 15 years. It has allowed me to create and submit various reports and assignments and to create unique lesson plans and handouts for my students. I have tutored many students on how to use the basic features of Word. Students have benefited and learned how to submit a formal report or essay using acceptable font types, sizes, header-footer, inserting page numbers, graphs and charts, generating appropriate margins and line spacing. I enjoy teaching students to use technology as a tool for academic success.
I have taught Nutrition as an elective science for the last three years on a high school level. This is the most exciting class because each and every student can relate to food in a personal way. I teach students the importance of eating healthy, the effects that food can have on the body- both positive and negative, and I also teach students about the chemical properties and effects of both macronutrients and micronutrients. Students will be able to understand the food pyramid on a deeper level and learn the importance of personal responsibility and decision making when it comes to eating.
I have taught Earth Science for 3 years on a high school level and enjoyed the topics within the course. Earth's weather, climate, astronomy, rocks and minerals, etc., are all areas that we need to understand in order to appreciate our natural world!
I can help you earn maximum points on the lab practical exam and learn valuable test taking techniques to score high on the Regents examination!
I have taught in a large comprehensive high school for the last six years and have become well acquainted with the various Regents level examinations required for graduation. As I have a General Science/Biology license, I have tutored students in Biology (Living Environment) and Earth Science. I also have experience helping students score high on the English and Algebra Regents. I provide students with various study guides, and test taking techniques that will help them score high and become confident when taking standardized exams.
Many students come to school, do their class work, then they go home and do their homework but when exam time comes, they do not know HOW to study. As a tutor, I will be able to work with each student individually so that they can learn different ways to study for various subjects given their unique learning styles. This is a habit that needs to be developed early in a child's academic career. It will help them gain confidence and attract peers that have the same academic values. Also, developing various ways to study and remember academic content will allow students to recognize their individual needs and serve as an important tool for the rest of their lives.
Writing has been one of my favorite pastimes since I was young. In the last few years, I have taken essay and opinion writing courses with a private institution for my own personal enjoyment. I have used this knowledge to implement more reading comprehension in the science classroom and I have also edited and given useful feedback to many of my colleagues on their work. I would love to help students find enjoyment in reading and learning to use the pen as a powerful tool for self expression.
