About ADRIAN

With over 40 years hands-on experience in the fine arts, I started formal training in fine arts studies age 10 with a specialized school, continuing through Fine Arts High School and Fine Arts College in Eastern Europe, always with the best A results, and in New York at the Fashion Institute of Technology, studying illustration. I had assimilated and applied the basic foundation principles, enriching my talent with work and academic experience in these schools studying the masters, the theory, the art history, the techniques, the composition and various ways of organizing and rendering the spatial illusion in 2D, perspectival rendering, not only for a finite drawing in itself but as preparatory steps for painting, sculpture, or graphic work. I specialize in croquis, sketching, fashion illustration with or without live model, still life, portraits from live model, product design, human anatomy, animal anatomy, clothing, drapery.

As a tutor I encourage student to acquire specific knowledge, principles, techniques, and methods to develop one's abilities, talents, and enthusiasm toward achievement, satisfaction, possible professional application.

I can teach the "building" of a work of art from the simple elements though the more complex, while training the eye, the hand and the attention, the observing and interpreting the subject, the analysis of well known masterpieces.

I have been exhibiting successfully with the National Sculpture Society and Queens (New York) Council on The Arts

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Art History

Studying the Art History has been a constant for me since taking formal Art instruction age 10. An important subject in the curricula throughout Fine art High School N.Tonitza (Bucharest Romania), N.Grigorescu Fine Arts Institute, Fashion Institute of Technology New York, where I achieved A grades and passed the difficult exams with flying colors due to my interest and passion for this field. Being an active fine artist I acquired hands on experience and understanding of the old and new masters' techniques, aesthetics and cultural environment.

Drawing

Drawing is the basis for most of the artwork we do,starting with sketching from an idea towards the finished artwork, whether painting, sculpture, graphic art, product design, etc.

My teaching is informed by over 40 years hands on experience in the Fine Arts. I started formal training in fine arts studies age 10 in a specialized school in Eastern Europe continuing through Fine Arts High School and Fine Arts College. My discipline as a straight "A" student continued in New York at the Fashion Institute of Technology where I focused on Illustration. By studying the "Old Masters" I assimilated and applied the basic foundation principles upon which Western Art has been developed. Technical proficiency has enriched my talent and expanded my expressive range. My academic experience with the art theory, art history, composition and design allows me to support my students in the essential use of drawing as an important preparatory stage for painting, sculpture or graphic work as well as for finished drawings which stand as fine art in their own right.

As a tutor I patiently encourage my student to acquire detailed knowledge and practical facility with timeless principles, proven techniques and reliable production methods. My students develop their talents, enthusiasm and confidence through hands on exercises as they receive informed and respectful feedback. Their satisfaction often leads to a professional application of their skills. In a competitive field like the Fine Arts, their strong foundational understanding and first hand expertise provides an edge. Fashion illustration, product design, human & animal anatomy, clothing/drapery, portraiture, sculptural prototyping and metalwork jewelry are but a few of the areas of specialized focus that lead to art careers.

The "building" of a work of art is emphasized from the simple elements through the more complex, while training the eye,the hand and the attention ,the observing and interpreting the subject, the analysis of well known masterpieces.

My areas of expertise are Drawing : composition ,portrait, still life,in pencil, charcoal and pastels, Sculpting (clay and wax modelling)in the round or bas-relief, portrait, animal, anatomical studies, sculptural jewelry, toy prototyping, Painting in oils or egg-tempera (portrait, still life, compositional scenes), color theory, Illustration ( for jewelry and fashion),printmaking- linoleum engraving , Western Art History.

Besides numerous commissioned art pieces, over the years my work include 4 years employment as an icon painter at the orthodox patriarchate in Bucharest Romania in egg tempera and oils on wood gessoed panels and canvas, drawing for Macy's displays New York, fashion illustration, jewelry illustration.

French

I grew up with French. It was spoken in my family, and my uncle was ambassador to France, where I have family and visit often, so the charming French culture and especially the arts are subjects of predilection to me.I also took many years of formal French language study in Europe which I enjoyed very much. So, if you like/need to study it, enrich what you know, it would be my pleasure to help you.
