My name is Dharshini, but out of convenience people usually call me Darsh or “Dee.” Please feel free to do so too! I’m of Sri Lankan background, which is an island off the southern coast of India. I was always interested in how the human body functioned, so I pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from NJIT and Rutgers. After university, I went on to pursue medicine by earning my MD from All Saints University School of Medicine. While at NJIT, Rutgers, and ASUSOM, I spent time teaching classes and tutoring students in Organic Chemistry, Calculus, Algebra, Biology, and various test preparations (SAT, MCAT, GRE, GED, and GMAT).

I have over 10 years of experience identifying students' individual learning styles and developing an action plans to guide them through the struggles they experience while trying to master a specific subject. Often, I assess what sparks a student's interest in a subject and play off those interests to fully engage them in their study plan. I strongly believe that every student learns differently, and focusing on their individual learning style leads to success.

Some people are visual and others are auditory or kinesthetic. While others are repetitive and need to read and write out what they are learning to grasp a topic. I have methods for all these different types of people. I usually try to teach a topic in at least three different ways so that the person will have the choice of what makes sense to them.

I have found that, because of big class sizes, students are only taught one way of looking at material. And, if they struggle to understand it or if their teacher is not very good at explaining the matter then they are overlooked and the class moves on. Most classes tend to build on previously taught lessons. This is how students are left behind and struggle to pay attention to something they feel they have already failed at.

But, they haven't failed. Students haven't even scratched the surface of their true potential. And, my job is to get them to realise what the
