Photoshop is a wonderful program to improve the quality of any image. Everyone now has a digital camera, whether it be a Digital Single Lens Reflex, Point and Shoot, or a Cell Phone. Some of the images you get can be good, but some just miss that extra care that no camera can give. That's where Photoshop comes in. I have been a photographer since I was fifteen, a commercial still life photographer for twenty-five years, and a professional digital retoucher for fifteen years, with eleven years retouching for Martha Stewart Living. So now I am here to help anyone learn Photoshop to whatever degree you wish, whether you’re a hobbyist, an amateur, or professional. I am self-taught, so I know what it takes to learn and understand Photoshop, and I can streamline a learning curve that fits your needs.
Learn how to use your camera to your advantage, and understand what makes a photo worth a thousand words. There are certain principles and concepts that if you understand, and put to use will increase the quality of your images. Since I have a background in High End Digital Retouching, I can also help you with Photoshop, as the two go hand in hand to make your images shine. I will help you with your passion in photography in a patient instructional manner, honing in on your needs. Photoshop is a wonderful program to improve the quality of any image. He understands what I would like to do with my photos, slowly explains until I am satisfied, and I am able to do each task.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a BA in Fine Arts, and I have been a photographer for over forty years. In 1992, during my career as a still life photographer using film, I decided to get my feet wet with digital photography. A digital camera was very expensive in those days costing tens of thousands of dollars, so I thought learning Photoshop was a good place to start, as this was an important tool connected to digital photography. I decided to teach myself, first how to use a Mac computer, and then Photoshop. It was the school of hard knocks teaching yourself, but I had quite a passion for it, so much so, that I started to do more retouching on a freelance level, and then found a position at Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia which lasted over eleven years. My experience there really fine tuned my talent, as the expected quality was very high. I would not recommend teaching yourself Photoshop, as this can be very arduous, but this self taught knowledge gives me the added feature of knowing the stumbling blocks, and being able to interpret for you the best method of learning.
Photography has been a passion for over forty years. I majored in Fine Arts in college with an emphasis on photography. With fifteen years as a commercial still life photographer using film, and now over ten years transferring to digital, I have a distinctive knowledge of both worlds. I no longer do any film, so my attention is in digital. I have been a hunter of images, documenting what I see around me in various subject matters from nature, to city, to architecture, to people in protest, and to images of snow at night. I have experience in recognizing light, design, subject matter, and composition, to create images of significance. I am now interested in passing my knowledge for people in a noncommercial atmosphere, learning digital photography, and how to develop your own creative talents, from the basics to the more advanced.
