Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

I have experience working as a paraprofessional for the Board of Education in special education, where some of my most rewarding experiences occurred. Assisting in the classroom motivated to study education.

After graduating with a Masters in Special education, I went on to teach students with specific learning disabilities including Spectrum Disorder, ADD, ADHD and Dyslexia.

Currently, I help children and some adults with behavioral issues that may interfere with learning which includes poor study habits and attention skills.

Adobe Photoshop

I have an Associates degree in Fine Arts with a concentration in Photography and a Master's in Education with a minor in Graphic Design.

I worked in the field of Graphic design and photography for advertising agencies, specializing in Photoshop. I am very interested in this program and have completed coursework in it as well.

Art Theory

I have an Associates degree in Fine Arts with a concentration in Photography and a Masters in Education with a minor in Graphic Design.

Art is my passion and it has given me a great deal of happiness to learn and teach in this area. A compilation of my work was displayed (Art/photo) show in an art Gallery in NY part of CCNY. I worked for an ad agency in the art department as Production Coordinator specializing in Layout and Photoshop and have tutored Photography/Photoshop privately for the last 5 years.

Aspergers

After graduating with a Masters Degree in Special Education, I worked for several agencies providing ABA therapy for children with Spectrum Disorder (Autism, PDD-NOS, and Aspergers) since 2006.

In this setting, I often work one to one with each child and in groups of 6 students. I help to develop programs that will enhance learning by breaking down skills into small steps and addressing various behaviors that may prevent optimum learning.

Dyslexia

I have over 10 years of experience teaching students with specific learning disabilities including ADD, ADHD and dyslexia.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have attained a great deal of experience as a Special Education teacher and and as a classroom teacher in a private preschool. In addition, I worked for nine years as a Para-Professional in Queens for the New York City Department of Education.

These positions have provided me with extensive experience in teaching 1:1, small group, and the classroom setting . Most of my teaching experience has been with pre-school age through grade 6. I hold New York State certifications in birth-grade 2 and grades 1-6.

Philosophy

My major in College was Philosophy.

I was and am very serious about this work and very interested in this subject.
It is a subject that I did very well in and would love to help anyone who needs assistance.

Phonics

I worked as a paraprofessional for the Board of Education with specific learning disabilities. I have also taught students with specific learning disabilities including ADD, ADHD and Dyslexia.

In order to help in this subject my lessons would focus on: letter order, word analysis, and phonemic awareness. My goal is to make reading more successful for all of my students.

Photography

I am a photography enthusiast. I love digital and traditional photography. I have an Associates degree in Fine Arts with a concentration in Photography and a Masters in Education with a minor in Graphic Design.

I have had photography shows, and I have worked professionally in the field of graphic design/photography.

Reading

I have ten years of tutoring and teaching experience working with children in the subject of reading.

I have worked with children in special education and mainstream classes. I specialize creative writing, reading comprehension, phonetic awareness, spelling, English grammar/usage and building vocabulary, organization, and study skills.

Special Needs

I am a New York State certified Special Educator.

My Master's degree and certifications are in Special Education; B-2nd grade and grades 1-6.
I have worked in preschools, private agencies. I taught students with ADHD, ADD and Spectrum Disorder.

Study Skills

I have worked with children in special needs and in mainstream education. I have come across many students who didn't know how to study or were very disorganized with their work. As I have become more experienced working with various behavioral issues, I have also helped students correct poor study habits. I did this primarily building organization skills; making specific plans, adding more structure, visual aids, auditory aids, and providing schedules for the students.
Sometimes I had to extend this to the home either having meetings with parents occasionally, or if I was providing home therapy, often study skills could be improved by working with the family addressing structural needs for their child while they study and/or complete homework assignments.

Vocabulary

I have been tutoring and teaching students for over 10 years in the subject of reading. I have helped students improve: spelling, grammar, comprehension, and vocabulary. Within the subject of reading, my favorite subtopics are phonics and vocabulary.
