Being a passionate tutor, I’d like to assist a student who is interested in learning Chinese not only to study the language, but to understand and enjoy the culture as well. There are some of my unique traits. First, I am a native Chinese speaking standard mandarin Chinese and being proficient in Pinyin system. Second, I received my M.A. in Chinese history in Queens College, CUNY, in 2012. I have taken 15 credits in Chinese language and 21 credits that related to Chinese culture and history. I have maintained an excellent academic standard--- my final GPA is 3.9. Third, I have been a Chinese teacher in NYC since 2008. I have the experience to teach children as well as adults, in public schools as well as in private houses. Fourth, I have systemically studied classical Chinese literature, history, and philosophy. I have given several public talks in Queens libraries, the topics including Tang Poetry, Zen Buddhism, Hongloumeng, etc. Also, I am good at writing Chinese prose; I have published some articles on major Chinese newspapers, for example, The World Journal. Fifth, I have been practicing Chinese calligraphy since my early childhood and have reached a high level of achievement; my calligraphic works have been exhibited many times in America as well as mainland China. In 2011, I have been elected to be the chairperson of the board of the North American Chinese Calligraphy Association.

Cha worked with my daughter twice. On both occasions, she took time before the session to prepare. During the session, she worked diligently to ensure that my daughter understood the material and helped select language that would give it cultural context. Additionally, she ensured that pronunciation was improved. I highly recommend Cha to anyone considering a Mandarin Chinese language tutor.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
