Brandeis University (Italian)
Welcome to my page! My name is Marino, and it would be my pleasure to work with you to gain better fluency in Italian. I am a heritage speaker of the language, and I received my Bachelor of Arts Cum Laude in Italian Studies at Brandeis University in 2014.
My work with tutoring began while in undergrad, where I worked with students who were first in their families to attend university. Often, I had to gauge their reading level in their native English before proceeding with target language work, and as a result, I feel confident working with students from 8th Grade onwards. I have also worked as an Ads Quality Rater for under contract with Google for the last two years, allowing me to remain uniquely conversant in the modern Italian language and engaged in the language.
Nothing gives me more satisfaction as a tutor than to see the progress of my students work from simple sentences into being able to read, recite and understand full passages of literature. In all my tutoring sessions I try to engage in the four essential language skills and I am happy to provide my own materials if my student is not currently enrolled in a class.
First and foremost, I bring an focused energy to all tutoring sessions and always make the most of the hour(s). I have a good eye and ear for grammar, and I try to relate everything back to an central aim for the lesson.
Although I live in Nassau County, I currently work in Manhattan and commute Monday thru Friday. I am willing to travel anywhere in Manhattan, Brooklyn or Queens that is within a reasonable distance of a subway station or bus stop. I am also willing to travel locally within Nassau County, as far east as Roslyn/Williston Park/Garden City. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
