My name is Kenny, I am a professional artist from Syracuse, NY. I earned my BFA in Painting and BS in Psychology from the College at Brockport in Brockport, NY and my MFA in Studio Art from Moore College of Art and Design in Philadelphia, PA.

I have exhibited in many galleries, ranging from local, to national, to international. I have refined skills in oil painting, acrylic painting, drawing (ink, graphite, charcoal, pastels, mixed media,) and sculpture (plaster, steel, wood, clay.)

My teaching methods are nationally renowned and revolve around working with students to identify roadblocks, and bypass them through intense practice and disciplined observation. One anecdote that exemplifies my method involves a student named Benjamin that I once taught in a small still-life drawing course. On the first day of class, I asked the students what they sought to achieve in the two month course. Benjamin, an eighteen year old student from Rochester, New York, explained that he always had trouble drawing people. Although figure drawing was not normally in my course layout, I added it to the final two classes to help him in this endeavor. In the first day of figure drawing, I had him drawing from a mannequin. As I observed his technique, I realized that he was averaging the features of the mannequin to be the most easily observable (making the eyes level, torso straight, shoulders level, etc.) As I worked with him on his observational technique, he still could not seem to get past drawing the face to be semi-profile, with eyes level to the mouth, evenly spaced and symmetrical. After a short break, I found in a large gorilla statue, and instructed him to approach it as if it were a human model. After several attempts, he began illustrating the face as it was, rather than as he thought it should be. I then pointed out the discrepancies in how he approached the gorilla versus how he approached a human. I explained that the facial fusiform area of the brain averages detail, creating symmetry and easily recognizable forms. This part of the brain does not work on other primates, so by bringing him something human-like, but not human, I was able to break him of this habit. His figure drawing improved drastically, and he now finds amazing joy and pride in his ability to draw figures.

Everyone with an interest in the arts has the potential to achieve amazing things. Through patience, discipline, observation, and hard work, anything is possible.
