About Eric

Hi,

My name is Eric M. and I'm a graduate of Electrical Engineering at Boston University. Currently, I work full-time at BAE Systems in Endicott, NY as a software engineer and am tutoring part-time.

At Boston University, I worked as a Teaching Assistant for several electronics classes including Electric Circuit Theory and Analog Electronics during my junior and senior years of college. I also taught several electronics courses at a nearby ITT Technical Institute for about 3 and a half years before the school's recent shutdown.

When it comes to teaching, I think a teacher's job is to identify the student's understanding of the material and cater their description of the subject matter towards that, especially in a one-on-one scenario. In engineering fields, some students respond better to the practical explanation, while others prefer the mathematical. My goal teaching any subject is to explore different interpretations of the material to help the student identify what learning method works best for them.

In terms subject matter, I am more than confident in any field of math from algebra 1 to calculus to differential equations (my favorite is linear algebra). I'm also good with any physics / mechanics or electrical engineering subjects. Finally, I have about 3 years of programming experience in C, C++, MATLAB, Python, Java, etc., but I am best with MATLAB and C/C++.

I'm very passionate about teaching and am always ready and willing to help!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

C

I have taught 4 quarters of C programming at the ITT Technical Institute in Dunmore, PA. I also currently work at BAE Systems as a software engineer, where I am required to read and write C and C++ code on a regular basis. I have written several test equipment software modules in C and C++ for BAE Systems in Endicott, NY.

C++

I currently work as a software engineer at BAE Systems and write C++ code on a regular basis. I have written several modules for test equipment software that are used on a regular basis. The majority of the code I have worked on at BAE was written from scratch, and is used to test products that are in development on a regular basis.

Computer Programming

I work as a software engineer at BAE Systems. For test equipment software, I have written several C++ modules that are used on a regular basis. At BAE I have also worked on embedded C software for real-time operating systems.

Trigonometry

The first several weeks of AC Electronics (a course I have both taught at ITT and TA'd at BU several times) serves as an introduction to trigonometry, so it is a field of math that I have a good amount of experience teaching.
