I have received my M.A. from Columbia University’s EALAC (East Asian Languages and Cultures) Department with a concentration in Chinese Pedagogy in 2014. I have more than 10 years of work experience in many different sectors of foreign language education. I have spent seven years working in prominent Chinese universities and one year teaching elementary school students in Thailand. Through research and work-related experience, I have been fortunate to accumulate vast working knowledge of the Asia-Pacific region. I am thus well versed in Chinese and East Asian culture, language and contemporary issues. I believe that I am prepared and willing to serve independent students’ Chinese education interests in regards to the following: instructing Chinese (Mandarin), curriculum design and writing, language assessment, student mentoring and so forth.
More specifically, I would like to summarize some of my work experience, educational background and scholarship that would convey how I believe I would fit this position well. I have been in China for nearly seven years, teaching TESOL, all-the-while, learned Chinese and wrote five TESOL-related books during my free time. I am a native speaker of English and fluent in Chinese. I attained all ‘A’s for every class I took at EALAC, as well as attained a near-perfect score on the Chinese language proficiency test. I have also done research and taken courses in the following areas: TCSOL (Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages), Second Language acquisition, Chinese Linguistics, Chinese Pedagogy, Chinese Curriculum Development, Chinese Language History, Chinese Ming and Qing Literature, Chinese History, Classical Chinese, Modern Chinese Literature, Usages and Limitations of the Chinese ‘Ba’ Construction and so forth. Besides my extensive second language teaching experience, I furthermore have comprehensive experience coordinating and managing cross-cultural education-related programs.
