About DANICA LORA

Hello Future Student!

Thank you for considering me as your tutor!

My name is Danica. I am twenty-one (21) years old. I moved here in New York from the Philippines two (2) years ago. Prior to that, I attended four (4) years of college majoring in architecture in the University of the Philippines. I am currently an architecture student here in New York City College of Technology and have been using AutoCAD for almost 5 years now. I am also proficient in Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator/InDesign, SketchUp, Rhino, Revit, and 3DS MAx.

I am currently working as an architectural designer in a firm in Brooklyn for almost two (2) years now. We specialize in healthcare. Most of our projects are hospital renovations and restorations. I am mainly involved in the schematic phase of the projects. Basically, dealing with the construction drawings.

Helping other people has always been something fulfilling for me. I have a lot of younger cousins and I grew up helping them in every way I can particularly in their academics. It gives me joy sharing my knowledge to them especially when I know that they're eager to learn new stuff. So I commend YOU for doing this - pushing your self to learn more than what the four walls of the classroom can offer.

I'm ecstatic to meet people who are dying to learn more - like YOU (or just somebody who needs help with lineweights or plotting). Schedule a lesson and I will be more than happy to help out.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Adobe Illustrator

Being an architecture student means that lineweights are everything in establishing hierarchy. Sometimes, it is just easier to use Illustrator instead of CAD when dealing with vectors especially line thickness. And Illustrator is a very handle software to handle that job.

Adobe InDesign

Being an architecture student means that I have to design architectural boards for my every presentation. InDesign is my go-to software. It gives me endless possibility to make my boards the best!

Adobe Photoshop

I have been using Adobe Photoshop since I was in high school. I have been a fan of it and have been using it for almost everything. And I'm constantly amazed of how I can transform something out of nothing using Photoshop.

Algebra 1

I have always loved numbers. I think because there's always this definite answer at the end of every problem or equation. Unlike architecture which is very subjective and you can never have one answer which is frustrating and equally challenging.

Architecture

I have been studying architecture for almost five (5) years now. The first three (3) years in the Philippines and nearly two (2) years here in New York. I'm also graduating (hopefully) in Spring of 2017.

AutoCAD

I have used Autodesk AutoCAD for almost five (5) years now. I also work in a an architectural firm in Brooklyn for about two (2) years now and we use CAD in our office for most of our construction drawings.

Elementary Math

I have always loved numbers. I think because there's always this definite answer at the end of every problem or equation. Unlike architecture which is very subjective and you can never have one answer which is frustrating and equally challenging.

English

I came from the Philippines and English is considered as our second language. I've had English classes for as long as I could remember and English is also the medium of teaching in every class aside from, of course, other language classes.

Geometry

I love symmetry and angles. I got my first 4.0 in Trigonometry. And I know SOHCAHTOA by heart.

Grammar

I hate people texting using abbreviations like 'u' for 'you' and 'ur' for 'you're' or 'your.' I want them to follow the rules because that will help us communicate with each other easier. One comma can change the whole idea of a sentence. And I think that's fascinating because the slightest addition and subtraction in the English language can mean something else instantly.

Handwriting

I started studying architecture in the Philippines and my first two (2) semesters were focused on freehand drawings. We weren't allowed to use CAD so we have to get used to depend on our hands to do all the work. I can both write in cursive and print neatly.
