Please call me Jessica, it's easier to pronounce. I graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Fine Art from the Fashion Institute of Technology SUNY. I'm a native Chinese born and raised. I've been a Chinese tutor since 2008 and I've also tutored in drawing before.

My middle school student applied and was accepted into his choice of one of the top specialized high schools in NYC, known as Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School. And in my experience while tutoring Mandarin Chinese, one of my students successfully fulfilled the required abilities to enroll in NYU's study abroad in Shanghai's exchange program; She got to enjoy a wonderful but competitive opportunity from the hours we studied together.

It's been nothing but rewarding to watch my students flourish.

I've been a Fine Art major for over 10 years now, so I've been learning art for almost my whole life. I have a Bachelor's degree in fine arts and a minor in art history. Personally, I am in love with figurative drawing. I have a profound appreciation for the female anatomy due to the major contour differences. The experiences I've had are portfolio preparation and drawing lessons while experimenting with color and different mediums. It was very rewarding for not only my student, but for me as well. I love art and would appreciate the opportunity to help while sharing my passion with a fellow art enthusiast. College Courses I've taken include Printmaking, Sculpture, Casting, Painting and Figurative drawing. High School Courses: Art History, Portfolio, Advanced Drawing (2D and 3D), Printmaking, Ceramics, and Photography. At Cooper Union's High School Outreach Program I took Drawing.(Cooper Union is a very competitive scholarship college and it was a great honor to be selected as a participant.)

I'm proficient in the usage of Acrylic paint (Water based pigments). It is rather similar to the usage of water color and gauche, but it's vastly different in it's effects after application. I've also been educated with the fundamental knowledge of Oil paint, it's very different from a water based pigment. The average beginner would end up making mud like paintings while using oil paint. I can provide painting samples of my work in most media required of an Fine Arts major (F.I.T. -SUNY). It's been about 10 years since the day I started to paint and I haven't been able to put down the brush. From building a stretcher frame, then stretching a canvas to experimenting with different techniques and mediums; "Art is whatever you can get away with" said Andy Warhol, and I love the opportunity to explore the ways with any art enthusiast.

The courses that I tutor in are Chinese I & II and Chinese conversation, and I was certified by the school Professors before hire. I believe in learning the actual characters and not just pin yin. The Chinese language wasn’t created within the English alphabet and there are meanings behind each character’s composition. It’s important to know the individual characters of each word before using them as a term in any sentence. There are no loopholes in learning unless you can understand, but I'll be honored to have the opportunity to learn with you.

"Learning" is established only when someone "Understands" the material. So my job has always been helping them fight their worst enemies, which tends to be themselves most of the time. It could be the method used, or the need to correct a bad habit, but I work with my students closely to help them make strategies to succeed in their educational and personal endeavors. My students now know how to divide and conquer, without fear of failing. They make me proud. :)

Caring and adaptable teacher !

Jessica observed an area of improvement that was holding back my daughter’s progress, she made recommendations with a new approach. The thoughtfulness and extra effort by Jessica was very helpful to the overall progress of my daughter!
