Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADHD

My Master's degree is in the education of both general and special education students (students with disabilities.) Since I began my teaching career, I have taught primarily special education students. I also tutor many students with disabilities. I have worked with students with many different disabilities - including those with ADHD/ADD. I tailor my assignments to their needs - making sure that they are high interest and broken down into smaller, easier to complete tasks.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

My Master's degree is in the education of both general and special education students (students with disabilities.) Since I began my teaching career, I have taught and tutored mainly special education students. I have worked with many students on the Autism spectrum. I try to tailor my tutoring to their personalities, in order to make the sessions fun and successful for them. I bring them appropriate material and make the tasks ones they feel successful in completing.

Elementary (K-6th)

My Master's degree is in the education of both general and special education students (students with disabilities), grades 5-9. Though I studied grades 5-9, many of my students function at a lower grade level. Because of this, I am very familiar with the curriculum for the elementary school grades and have tutored elementary school students.

Social Studies

In college, I majored in both history and political science (double major.) My Master's degree is in the education of both general and special education students (students with disabilities.) I am certified to teach all subjects, grades 5-9. I have had experience teaching middle school Social Studies.

Special Needs

My Master's degree is in the education of both general and special education students (students with disabilities.) Since I began my teaching career, I have taught primarily special education students. I also tutor many students with disabilities. I have worked with students with many different disabilities - speech and hearing impediments, ADHD, and students on the autism spectrum, just to name a few.

Study Skills

My Master's degree is in the education of both general and special education students (students with disabilities.) Since I began my teaching career, I have used many study skills in my classroom to help my students become better at preparing for tests.

Some of the skills I like to use are: creating foldables and index cards (to learn vocabulary and subject specific terms), drafting outlines (to use to plan writing assignments and to study larger topics), and using checklists to help break a larger assignment down into smaller chunks.
