SUNY Oswego (Childhood Education)
SUNY Oswego (MEd)
Hi! I am a recent graduate of SUNY Oswego and am currently certified for Childhood Education grades 1-6. Last summer I began my graduate studies also at SUNY Oswego and upon completion of graduate school this December will also be certified for Literacy Education and Early Childhood Education. The past two summers I have worked for Say Yes to Education in Syracuse, and in 2010 I worked at a daycare during my summer break. I have tutoring experience from my graduate coursework this past semester in which I planned, created, and implemented reading lessons for an elementary student. I also communicated with parents and kept a thorough log book with plans, assessments, and progress made. At the end of the tutoring experience I wrote a letter to the parents about progress made and plans for the future and for more practice at home. By communicating with families a better effort can be made to work as a team and help the child to succeed. I have references from teachers I have volunteered with and worked with through student teaching. I also have references from my professor who observed my tutoring sessions and plans during my graduate course. I enjoy reading, writing, running, swimming, cooking, and baking and would love to become a tutor for your child!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am currently NYS certified for Childhood Education grades 1-6. Upon completion of graduate school this December, I will also be certified for Literacy Education (Birth-grade 6), and Early Childhood Education (Birth-grade 2). I have been a substitute teacher for over a year and have experience planning and implementing lessons during student teaching and a long term substitute position I held in May.
I am currently completing my graduate program for Literacy Education (Birth-grade 6). I have tutoring experience specifically in the area of phonics, phonological awareness, spelling, decoding, and comprehension. I have administered the P.A.S.T in order to identify the levels of phonemic awareness that students need practice in. I have used Elkonin boxes, segmenting activities, and blending activities to work on phonics skills.
MY undergraduate degree is in Childhood Education (grades 1-6) and my graduate degree will be in Literacy Education (birth-grade 6) upon graduating this December. I have experience through student teaching in which I assisted students in playing review games in order to study for exams. I have also tutored and provided activities and websites for students to work on at home.
