Colgate Rochester Crozier Divinity School (Master's)
My name is Cheryl and I am an adult college student completing my bachelor's degree at Nazareth College of Rochester. I have a wide range of experiences that include working as a substitute paraprofessional in the Pittsford Central School District and working as a note taker for students with hearing impairments for Monroe BOCES #1 in Rochester, NY.
I believe I can provide support for students in grades K-5 in the areas of English language arts, reading, math and social studies. My studies at Nazareth are in the area of Religious Studies, so I also feel qualified to assist students with religion classes as well.
My approach to tutoring is collaborative and it would be my hope to communicate with both the parents/family of children and their teachers in the content areas on which we will focus. I have found that the creation of study aids, including flash cards and manipulatives have helped students to understand the concepts being taught. It has also helped to plan learning activities which connect with the daily lives of students so that they can better relate to the course content. It has been my experience that the most effective way to learn is to build on student strengths rather than focusing on weaknesses in order to create a positive environment for learning.
The rest of my life experience is quite varied and includes general office work and research experience. I've even had experience driving large trucks! Through these experiences I have met a wide range of people from different backgrounds, all of whom have enhanced my understanding and ability to communicate effectively.
I'd like to have the opportunity to help you and your child succeed in school. If you think I'd be a good fit, please get in touch with me via WyzAnt. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have studied scriptures most of my adult life and am very familiar with both the old and new testaments. I use study guides for both the old and new testaments to help my understanding. I have attended classes regularly throughout my adult life both at church and at college. These classes have enabled me to be familiar with the all the books of old and new testaments. I apply the teachings and will help my students learn to be familiar with and apply these same principles to their lives.
I have experience with public speaking. I have spoken in public in arenas such as church and school. I have prepared talks on subjects. I can help in the areas of talk preparation, conducting, presentation, stance and confidence.
I can help assist and teach techniques such as voice control, remaining calm, responding, and acting natural. Ad lib and humor are also techniques which can be incorporated into any talk which can help alleviate stress and nervousness.
