Hello there, my name is Jorden C., I was born and raised in New York City, spent 3+ years in Japan, and language/graphic design are my passions! I use all of my passions on a daily basis and wish to share my experience, skills, anything I can offer. Teaching is my new realized passion but has been around since I used to tutor younger children back in high school, so I technically have been teaching for years!
I focus on my student's requests and needs to help them achieve their goals! I am nothing but delighted when a student finally "gets it", honestly I'd say it's the most satisfying feeling any teacher could get! Knowledge isn't something that should be kept in one place, I believe it's to be shared amongst the people! I will do my best to share mine with everyone! Watching my students grow in level is a very rewarding feeling that only motivates me to teach even more!
I have experience teaching ESL in Japan for 3 years in all different kinds of situations ranging from business English to Everyday English.
I have studied Japanese for 5+ years and have reached fluency! Reading, writing, speaking, etc. Teaching Japanese is something that has been an interesting experience for me because it's not my mother tongue but it's up there with it. I no longer think when having conversation as well as use it daily. Teaching it to specifically English speakers (which is most of the world, whether it's their first or second language) I find to be very simple to get my points across for my student to understand! Even translating is something I did for a while.
I studied Graphic Design in college and it's also my hobby even as we speak. I specifically use photoshop the most and is my favorite program.
I am a very friendly person who wants to see my students succeed and get better in anything/everything they have on their list of goals! I'm always rooting for them and focus all of my attention on their needs whatever it need be! I'm looking forward to meeting everyone and teaching you! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I worked in English schools here in NYC and in Japan. ESL is what I taught there to all ages as well so I believe I can be very helpful to all anyone. Whatever test you needs to prepare for, anything you want to work on is no problem, even just raising the bar on your English level. Whether it's writing homework, English grammar, business English, communicative vocabulary/phrases, even conversation, all no problem! I am a patient teacher who uses multiple ways to get the material across so my student can learn in the way they feel the most comfortable with, catering to the student's needs and learning style is my number one important thing to do for the sake of my students.
I studied with Minna no Nihongo as well as Genki, very good at describing the grammar and showing you how to use it! I've also used two more grammar books but those are uncommon, the ones I've used in Japan. I have a lot of experience with all of these textbooks and would be happy to share my knowledge with you. I even have an expertise in business Japanese if need be, I've taught all ages and have multiple ways of getting explanations across.
