Florida State University (Theare)
Being a teaching artist is my passion. I love using theatre and dance as tools to enhance all aspects of life, whether that be in school, social interactions, or personal self-worth and confidence. I am originally from Pennsylvania, but was raised in Florida. I moved to the Northeast to continue my work as a Teaching Artist, and have recently decided to add tutoring to my list of experiences as I figure out my next move in my theatre career. I am definitely a family person, out-going, hardworking, and very passionate about working with children, especially those with special needs or other various learning differences.
I studied theatre and dance in college, along with mass media communications. I have worked at a number of professional theatres since graduating college, like the Florida Repertory Theatre and one of the largest non-profit professional theatres, the Walnut Street Theatre, in Philadelphia. Theatre and the arts open up a world where anything is possible, which is an important value for young minds to have, and I want to help youth find that.
I have worked with children and adults with various special needs and learning differences for over 10 years. I have taken professional courses on OPWDD, and have been trained in behavioral techniques to use with people with special needs. I have developed theatre curriculum and programs for children with autism, and I also worked at a facility where I was a direct-care supervisor for 5 men with varying degrees of special needs. I am also CPR and First-Aid certified.
I have been dancing for over 16 years. Contemporary dance is my specialty, but I love all forms of dance. It is a huge means of self-expression and I enjoy using it as an outlet for children. I've taught classes in contemporary, ballet, hip-hop, jazz, ballroom, and tango. I've also worked as a choreographer for summer camps and professional theatre shows.
