During college I majored in creative arts and technology and expanded my already existing knowledge of the program Adobe Photoshop to much higher levels, having interned for Titan Worldwide, a renowned transit advertisement company. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
During my service at City Year New York, I worked with a diverse team in public schools mentoring and tutoring students of various ages with high-quality interventions designed to keep them on track in school when they felt that they lacked the ability to do so themselves. I received intense training on teaching students the current Common Core standards of elementary math and ready-gen standards of elementary English language arts. My methods are based on first assessing the student in questions level, then modifying any and all lesson plans from there on out.
