About Damar

I believe in a foundational process of teaching, along with finding the reason why a student may be having an issue and then trying to help remedy that specific problem before we expand into other areas. A trouble area for a student is usually much more than just comprehension, As a tutor I need to help the student first understand why they're having an issue before we can move forward in resolution.

As a result I also feel that as a tutor my methods of teachings have to very liquid because no two students have the exact same issue; therefore you can't approach every lesson let alone student the same. Learning has a very broad spectrum and if that isn't kept in mind when I teach, I would be doing a disservice to student. When you're teaching a student the process of identification, you give them a skill that goes beyond the session. They can take what you've given them and continue to apply to other areas.

I excelled in public speaking while acquiring a public relations degree from St. John's university, along with life experience gained through having to speak publicly often to group as coach, trainer, and an HIV/AIDS peer counselor. The methods I've learned for public speaking were taught to me by some of the best professors in the NY area.

I have extensive experience spent proofreading from my time in academics, along with time spent interning and working in the public relations world. I would proof copy, press releases, and other materials used in media relations. I also did much of the proofreading and editing of the materials for Kids Comanche and O.B.S.G; two artist collectives I am a member of.

I have personally dealt with dyslexia, having it effect me at each level of education and in daily life, through that I have learned reading and comprehension techniques, methods, and tricks that were taught to me by reading specialists that I have expanded upon in the past years.

I played basketball competitively, as well as training basketball skills with a focus on strength, conditioning, and coordination for the last 3 years. I would build a player's skill and athleticism through observation of their movements and tendencies; then correcting those movements with hands on direction and then drills for live use. Outside of basketball I'm an avid athletic and exercise enthusiast practicing the art of power and Olympic lifting while acquiring a degree in kinesiology from Brooklyn college. In my studies I learn and practice all kinds of lifting techniques while also learning the science on how the human movement chain operates and what can be done to modify the kinetic chain.

Feel free to contact me for more information about lessons or any inquiries specific types of training regarding basketball, weight lifting, or public speaking. Excited for the chance to help you get better.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Basketball

I've spent several years as a basketball trainer. I built player specific programs, building gains through critical breakdown of player(s) movements and tendencies. I've worked with players at all levels, ranging from novice to Division 1 and professional players. I'm spearheading the introduction of the basketball training program for an internet-based basketball service headquartered in NYC. There I will be creating and leading conditioning and training programs for its members, along with coaching its practice sessions. When I'm not teaching basketball I'm playing it avidly as I did competitively in high school and college.

Bodybuilding

I have lifted avidly for years, studying methods of mass building, and lifting techniques. I'm currently acquiring degree in kinesiology, where I study the human body and the effect of positive stress like weight-lifting, along with the methods on how to properly instruct these methods. I learn and practice different schools of lifting ranging from power, Olympic, and bodybuilding. I train others in weightlifting occasionally creating lifting programs catered to help them gain a desired result. As well as acquiring a kinesiology degree, I'm currently in the steps of acquiring my National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) certification.

Public Speaking

I have experience learning and teaching public speaking methods while acquiring Public Relations degree from St. John's University. I used these methods in practical situations as a coach, and trainer. I also used these methods while giving speeches, or teaching while being an HIV/AIDS peer counselor.
