Bio

I first became interested in Japanese through manga and anime although I didn't start studying the language in earnest until I was 21 or 22. I started off with a year of self-study before enrolling in classes. In the decade or so of Japanese language study I have studied abroad in Japan for a year, passed the JLPT N2 and I plan on returning to Japan for a year to work.
I love Japanese, and so I have spent much of those 10 years tutoring both privately and in a university tutoring center. I...

I love Japanese, and so I have spent much of those 10 years tutoring both privately and in a university tutoring center. I have also co-taught a university level Japanese class as part of my duties as a teaching assistant (I have TA'd for classes in Japanese literature and writing intensive courses as well).

I have recently completed my Masters in Japanese at University of Massachusetts Amherst. My thesis investigated how students perceive technology and use it in their Japanese language study.
I am currently working toward the JLPT N1 and ACTFL's OPI at the advanced level.

I also tutor Study Skills, ESL and Writing.

These are meant to help students discover their strengths and bolster their weaknesses in order to achieve academic success.

The best tutor I've ever had

David is very patient and kind and we have developed a great student/teacher relationship. I have learned SO much about the Japanese language from him and just today we took a break from the usual and did a calligraphy lesson. He is very knowledgeable about the Japanese culture and knows what he's talking about. He hardly ever uses the teacher's textbook and rather teaches from his own head. I recommend him completely if you're interested in learning the Japanese language. He's not simply a tutor; he's a friend.
