In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a NYS Permanent Certification in Elementary (N-6) and Special Ed (N-12). Throughout my years of teaching elementary school (K and grade 3), I also have acquired much experience and knowledge of the other grades (k-6) through close cooperative involvement with those grade level teachers in my school, as well as, having worked closely on assessment committees (K-6) to evaluate curriculum, student goals and performance. In addition, I have worked with other district public school professionals evaluating and assessing student needs of alternate, remedial, and enrichment educational strategies, for both the general and special education students.
Through NYS certification of K-6, 10 years of teaching kindergarten (25 students in a private school), and years of teaching 3rd grade, my primary focus was the teaching and student mastery of phonics and reading skills.
