I am a caring, compassionate and very patient elementary teacher who thrives on student's achievement and success! My favorite area of study is reading, and I enjoy sharing my passion with children. Students are exposed to a variety of genres such as fiction, informational text, poetry, etc. to meet all learning standards, as well as satisfy all learners needs and desires. The New York Learning Standards are implemented in every lesson I teach to enhance literacy development. Students gain the skills and knowledge needed to become analytical thinkers, and utilize effective strategies needed to recognize key ideas and text details. In addition, I am also a published children's book author!
My goal is to provide an enriching environment for your child to thrive and learn, as well as focus on areas needing special assistance. I will encourage your child to try their best, offer suggestions and guidance, which will develop them to be a successful lifelong reader and learner, and am confident that my one-to-one tutoring will achieve this goal.
I am available afternoons/evenings during the week and Saturday/Sunday mornings and early afternoons. I welcome the opportunity to meet your child and help him/her be successful and enjoy learning!!
As a published children's book author and graduate of Masters in Literacy Education, my experience and background will provide your child to enhance their reading, vocabulary, grammar and writing skills.
Before becoming an elementary school teacher, I taught preschool for 15 years. With my background experience in preschool and childhood education, I have successfully taught many reading students the skills needed to develop good reading skills.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been a substitute teacher for the past 3 years working with students in grades K-6. In addition, I recently received my Masters in Literacy Education and spent three semesters tutoring a 3rd, 4th and 5th grade student. My experience, compassion and commitment makes me a great candidate to tutor any elementary student.
I have a master's degree in Literacy Education from birth to grade 6 where I was trained to not only recognize reading struggles but also remediate them. This training included phonics as well as many other reading strategies. I also tutor at Huntington Learning Center using their phonics, reading and math programs.
I have a Masters Degree in Literacy Education and a BS in Childhood Education Grades 1-6. My masters degree had me complete several practicums for different grade level students.
