Greetings! There are two simple secrets to writing well - solid organization and clarity. Organization develops clear thoughts; clear wording prevents redundancy and over-writing. But I also believe this process must be guided by an individual's personal learning style. Together we can find your natural study rhythm and develop strong writing skills.
I hold a master's degree and candidacy in cultural anthropology from the University of Michigan and have spent 8 years as a freelance writer. During college I tutored students in a variety of subjects, and in graduate school I tutored students one-on-one in office hours as a teaching assistant for anthropology and film studies classes. I currently work as a professional tutor for Dutchess Community College during the academic year. I am respectful and personable by nature, patient and professional as a tutor.
Starting out as an academic writer helped me develop good analytic writing skills; as a grant writer I developed strong argumentation; and as a PR writer I honed a more expository and engaging style. Highly detail oriented with strong analytic abilities (perfect score on the GRE Analytic Section), I can help you grasp any subject, as well as organize and improve your writing skills. Greetings! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I hold a Master's Degree in Cultural Anthropology from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. I have also attained candidacy toward the PhD in anthropology and conducted over-seas fieldwork in Nepal (on a Fulbright-Hayes scholarship).
As a freelance writer, excellent language use, grammar, and proofreading skills are a requirement. At the University of Michigan, my graduate program was heavily informed by literary theory and cultural studies, making analysis of text, literature and behavior a top priority.
As a freelance writer, excellent grammar and proofreading skills are a requirement. I can help you develop an eye and an ear for these details.

A simple secret to writing well is good organization and clarity. As a freelance writer for 12 years, I've honed these skills thoroughly. I advanced my skills as an analytic writer while a graduate student at the University of Michigan in a theory-heavy Anthropology program. I later worked as an international development writer for USAID while in Nepal, which helped me develop a strong argumentative/persuasive style, as did my three-year stint as a grant writer back in NYC. Six years as a public relations writer for firms specializing in high-end travel and restaurants taught me a more expository and engaging style.
