About Justin

Hi everyone,

I started learning photography in the middle of high school. At the time I was mostly self taught, with help from my sister and graphic design teacher. The vocational school that I attended was a member of SkillsUSA, an organization dedicated to helping students excel in their areas of interest. Each year SkillsUSA holds nationwide competitions in many areas, one of which is photography. In my Junior year I placed 1st in Locals, and Regionals, but 3rd in States, I returned during my Senior year and placed 1st in Locals, Regionals, States, and went of to place 1st at the National competition in Kansas City. I have interned with QuadGraphic’s photography division QuadPhoto in Saratoga Springs, NY, where I learned about commercial photography. And after high school I attended and graduated from the Center for Digital Imaging Arts at Boston University (CDIA:BU).

Adobe Photoshop has been one of my favourite programs for many years. I started doing photo manipulation in Photoshop before I even started learning photography. I love editing photos! During classes at CDIA my classmates called me Photoshop Yoda. I often finished my assignments before others and would help out my classmates.

I love Photography, and I love sharing my passion with others!

Thanks,
Justin D

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Adobe Photoshop

I taught myself Adobe Photoshop through my first 2 years of high school, and then attended a Graphic Design and Visual Communication class at a local vocational school for my Junior and Senior year. In this class we used Photoshop extensively, and also got experience with the rest of the Adobe Creative Suite.

At my time in college at CDIA we also had several classes dedicated to photo editing using a combination of Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop. I was at the top of my class for photoshop and would often finish my assignments early and either work on personal photoshop work, or help out my classmates with any questions they had.

Microsoft Windows

Microsoft Windows has been my main operating system for many years now. I have extensive experience with Windows XP, Vista, and Windows 7.
