About Jim

I've been teaching technology courses at the University at Buffalo for over 20 years including database design, web design, introduction to programming, systems analysis and design. Currently, I'm teaching Web Design (HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript) for Millard Fillmore college and Library Technology for the Department of Library Science at the University at Buffalo.

I've also taught one-on-one and seated/online classes in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Project) as a contract instructor and continue to expand my knowledge and offerings.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I have CS and MLS degrees from the University at Buffalo and have taught in the CS and LIS departments. I also teach in the CiS department at Buffalo State College.

Dreamweaver

I have been using Dreamweaver for many years and have taught classes in web design using Dreamweaver at the University at Buffalo and as a contract instructor to numerous groups and individuals.

I have been using and teach Outlook since it first appeared. I have taught beginning and advanced courses in folder, contact, calendar, and task maintenance along with collaboration via shared folders and calendars.

I have been using PHP since the beginning and have taught courses in PHP/MySQL at the University at Buffalo and have been using PHP to design interactive web sites for over 15 years.

Public Speaking

I have been speaking in public for over 20 years. I have given lectures and presentations both regionally (Western NY) and nationally on various Information Technology topics. I have been an instructor at the University at Buffalo since 1986 and speak in front of various student and adult levels with class sizes ranging from 10 to 350. I am experienced in using PowerPoint while speaking to convey my message.

SQL

I have been using SQL since the beginning and have taught courses in PHP/MySQL at the University at Buffalo and have been using PHP to design interactive web sites for over 15 years. I have also taught SQL Database Concepts using Oracle and MSSQL along with Access and Toad as a front-end clients.

Web Design

I have been teaching web programming and design at the University at Buffalo for almost 15 years. My course include HTML (now HTML5), CSS (now CSS3), JavaScript, ASP, PHP, and MySQL. I currently teach MFC215.
