Many years of teaching and the raising of my own three children have formed my teaching styles. I have a BA and MA in education with a minor in English. I have taught 5th and 6th grade students for 30 years. I can truly say that I understand a middle school student both academically and socially! I teach with examples, a sense of humor and take learning styles into consideration. For the past few years I have worked in a blended classroom, and I am experienced to work with students who may fall on the spectrum. My students know that they are responsible for their learning, and my laid-back style helps them to accept me, like me and work with me.
I specialize in elementary education. I have taught all subjects, but my strengths are in ELA. I have been coordinator of the ELA program in my school district and have spent many hours writing curriculum. I am very familiar with the COMMON CORE expectations and my students are successful on their state tests. I have tutored for years, and look forward to working with more students through this tutoring service.
I am a life-long learner myself. This year alone have taken classes relating to cognitive coaching and habits of the mind. I am active in Albany where I support my district's teacher evaluation initiative and am a member of our PAR Panel. I am a school leader and actively strive to better myself, my students, and my school district.
Students will have homework after my session with them. However, most of the time the students don't view it as homework because I strive to initiate their interest with what is assigned. Parents will receive progress reports and after each lesson a brief conversation will summarize all we did on that day. In addition, if there are specific areas of academic concern, I will certainly address them in future tutoring sessions. I have a cancellation policy, but my tutoring times are flexible.
I truly enjoy tutoring. I appreciate the knowledge that my students gain, and I enjoy knowing them well enough to tailor lessons to meet their interests. To meet the academic and social goals of each student, tutoring locations are determined by the needs of each individual student.
I look forward to hearing from you. I know that I can be the tutor that can make a difference in a student's education!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taught for 31 years. I am a mentor teacher and continue to be active in school curriculum writing.
