St. Joseph's College (Education)
In addition to my current position with the Syosset School District, my background includes experience as a Special Education Teacher in a self-contained combined Kindergarten/First Grade class and as a Third Grade Teacher for the New York City Department of Education. This has been an excellent opportunity for me as I have developed my skills as a teacher and participated in ongoing training in the Teachers College Reading and Writing Project. Combined with several years as a Substitute Teacher, I have gained significant experience working with students on varying age and developmental levels, including ESL students. My background includes planning multi-sensory lessons that are child centered and differentiated, using scaffolding, prompts and data-driven instruction to meet each student’s needs. Students are motivated and engaged in all subject areas and every lesson is aligned with the New York State Common Core Learning Standards to ensure that children are equipped with the tools needed to become successful contributors to society.
My lifelong dream has always been to be an educator and make a difference in the lives of the children I teach. There is no other profession that can touch a life so profoundly and having a positive impact on a child's life is the greatest reward a teacher can experience. There is no greater sense of achievement for me than to see a child grasp a concept that I am teaching and become excited and motivated to further explore and to learn. As a teacher, it is one of my primary goals to ensure that each and every accomplishment is celebrated, thus giving my students a strong sense of pride while building their self-esteem.
Math lessons should be visual and hands on. I use manipulatives to help students grasp the lessons and pass the Common Core Math Exams!
Each student possesses unique abilities. I will cater my lessons to the individual students needs. Whether that be guided reading instruction, shared reading, and shared writing. Each lesson should be scaffolded so that the child better understands. I do this by using prompts, thinking maps, and graphic organizers.
Last year I taught a class of 26 ESL students and they all passed the Math and ELA Tests! I can prepare your child for the ELA test by using strategies that really work and help them to answer the questions on the day of the Test! I use sample exams and review skills and concepts needed.
I have excellent rapport with children. I am motivated to inspire students to learn for years to come!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
My experience as a teacher for the NYCDOE and Syosset School District has shown that my students become successful when taking the Common Core Tests. All of my students have passed the tests!
I currently tutor children in the Syosset School District. I am experienced with Go Math, Envision Math, Teacher's College Reading and Writing program, Fountas and Pinnel Leveled Literacy Program, Fundations, Guided Reading, and much more! I have access to all of these materials, resources, and manipulatives. I encourage to love to learn and they in return become successful!
