SUNY Oneonta (Elementary Education)
My name is Danielle, and I am currently a senior at SUNY Oneonta with a major in elementary education. My concentration is English and will be attending the online masters program at SUNY Oneonta for reading and literacy beginning in June 2016. I am currently student teaching in a fourth grade class at Kent Elementary school.
I am looking to help students overcome any struggles they are facing in certain academic areas. My hopes in being a tutor is to gain more experience teaching, but most importantly help students succeed. I am very familiar with Common Core and have a lot of experience in the classroom observing teachers as well as teaching.
I am very familiar with Common Core and where students need to be by the end of the year. I also currently work alongside a teacher who received her masters in math and has been teacher for 20+ years and can use her as a resource.
Since I am familiar with the Common Core standards, I know the goals students need to be able to achieve in reading and writing in order to be successful in the future and in life.
For 5 years, since I started college, my professors have been drilling the importance of Common Core into my brain. I have learned that as a teacher we must do everything we can to scaffold students toward reaching the standards and objectives that Common Core gives us.
I will make an outstanding elementary tutor because I have a passion for helping kids be successful as well as getting them ready for the future.
It is very important that each and every child knows that they are capable of anything. I try my hardest to get that point across and remind students to never give up, no matter how hard school can be sometimes. I also want to make learning fun and exciting, I think that is the key to keeping kids engaged and wanting to learn. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
The courses I have taken at SUNY Oneonta have allowed me to be qualified to tutor in Common Core. These courses have taught me techniques and strategies to use in order for students to achieve the expectations of the Common Core standards. Although the standards set high expectations for students, with the appropriate teaching strategies, it is possible for students to achieve those expectations. I am also currently student teaching in a public school that follows the Common Core curriculum so I am exposed and familiar with it.
I am qualified to teach elementary grades 1-6. I am currently a senior at SUNY Oneonta and have taken 5 years of coursework in elementary education. I have done over 200 hours observing grades 2, 3, and 4. I am currently student teaching in a fourth grade class with a cooperating teacher who has 20+ years of teaching experience at the elementary level. I have taken and passed the Educating All Students (EAS) certification exam) as well as all three parts (english, math and arts and sciences) to the Content Specialty Test (CST). I will be taking my ALST certification exam in February and am currently working on my edTPA.
