My names is James and I have been teaching for 13 years in adult education. I specialize in GED but have a permanent teaching certificate in 7-12 social studies. Teaching GED has given me a wealth of teaching experience in the main 5 subject areas including science, social studies, reading, mathematics, and writing skills. Although these skills only transfer to the 9-10 grade level in order to achieve an equivalency diploma, I have the skills in subject areas that may be needed by those beyond that. I have experience working with those who are older than 18, so I am very comfortable working with adults.
I am 55 years old, married with no children, except for two beagles. I am looking forward to helping those in need. Hello,

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Teaching GED studies for the past 13 years has given me the experience not only for the 7-12 students I am certified in but also for those younger. I also teach various subjects in Adult Basic Education (ABE) including math (everything from the basic four computations to fractions and percent), science (from earth science, ecology, basic biology, etc.), social studies (including U.S. and world history, geography, etc.), reading skills (from phonics on up), and writing (from basic sentence construction on to paragraph formation, all the way to essay completion). I have tutored 5th and 6th grade students for Wayne Finger Lakes BOCES in the past. I have worked with 3rd graders with science that had learning disabilities. I have worked with fifth and sixth graders with writing, math, and social studies. Many of the students I have worked with among this age group have had some sort of learning problem. I have had great success working with them. I also student taught 6th and 7th grade Social Studies in Pennsylvania. In addition, I worked with many elementary students while being a full time substitute (filling in on an everyday basis) in the Marcus Whitman School District in New York.
