Greetings, All!

I am Richard. I graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Wagner College in 1976. I completed the Master of Education program at Rutgers University, Graduate School of Education in 1998 with specialization in the area of Science Education. Since then I have been teaching at the middle and high school levels in New York, California and Thailand, as well as having taught for the City University of New York as an adjunct professor.

I think it important to keep up with current advances in the field of Science so as to better serve the needs and interests of the students whom I teach. Most recently I participated in a six week course in the area of Stem Cell and Developmental Biology during July and August 2020 hosted by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

In the interim period between graduating from Wagner College in 1976 and beginning the Master of Science Education program at Rutgers University in 1996, I attended classes at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, worked as an Associate Research Chemist at the Institute of Science and Technology in Ann Arbor, and was employed as a High Seas Fisheries Biologist for the National Marine Fisheries Service in San Diego, California. During this period I also worked aboard commercial fishing vessels, and received my Captain license from the U.S. Coast Guard, where I became adept at the art of celestial navigation with the use of the sextant.

During all my years as a student, both in the traditional classroom setting as well as in industry, the courses which were most enjoyable and fulfilling were those taught with enthusiasm, a broad knowledge base, and compassion on the part of the instructor. I think it is most important that difficult subject material be presented in a clear and uncluttered manner so as not to be an intimidating task. With this basic idea in mind, I plan and construct lessons individually for students, tailoring the content and level of rigor for each and every student. One size doe
