About Gordon

I have recently tutored someone in algebra which I am very comfortable in doing. I am presently tutoring someone in calculus which is a bit more challenging. I graduated from Lehigh University in 1972 as a Civil Engineer and a few years ago retired from the State. I took Calculus 1, 2 and 3 in College a long time ago so am presently refreshing my knowledge of it. I have the ability to read a textbook, interpret it, then explain it in simpler terms to help someone understand it. I enjoy helping people with math which comes relatively easy for me. I am a Christian with high moral values, but I can relate to most people as long as they are serious about learning the materials or at least not fighting it. Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

I have a BS in Engineering and have retired after 37 years of experience in engineering. I got 3 100s and a 98 in my math regents in high school. Even though math has changed a little since then, I have an ability to understand what I read and explain it in simpler understandable terms. I have helped numerous people in math through the years. Within the last few months I have helped with statistics, algebra and calculus.

Algebra 1

I have helped one of my children and my wife with algebra. Recently I tutored another adult in algebra. I have a BS in Engineering. I have an ability to understand what I read and explain it in simpler understandable terms.

Algebra 2

I am a retired engineer with 37 years of experience in applying math. I got a 98 on my algebra regents in high school and have helped many people with algebra since then. This includes a fellow student during high school, one of my children, my wife, and most recently another man. A person I am tutoring in Calculus says that I can explain things better than his tutors at his college. I have an ability to understand what I read and explain it in simpler understandable terms.

Calculus

I recently helped a 30+/- year old male OCC student go from an F when I first started helping him with Calculus to a C. He did have other tutors at OCC, but he told me that I explained things much better than they did and I helped him more. I have the ability to read, interpret and clearly explain things from a textbook or set of notes. If I am unfamiliar with the subject, I am able to research and get answers from the materials I have.

Differential Equations

I am tutoring another adult in Calculus that includes differential equations. I have a BS in Engineering. I have an ability to understand what I read and explain it in simpler understandable terms.

GED

I helped my wife get her GED and am very strong in math knowledge and good in science, having taught myself Chemistry in high school. I am a retired Civil Engineer who enjoys helping people learn.

Prealgebra

I am a retired engineer who loves to help others with math. My favorite math is algebra. I started helping others in math in high school and have tutored my son, wife and most recently another adult in algebra. I have an ability to understand what I read and explain it in simpler understandable terms. My calculus student tells me that I explain material better than his tutors at college.

Precalculus

Knowledge of Calculus is essential in helping with Pre-Calculus. I have recently tutored Calculus to an OCC student who claimed I explained things better than any other tutor he has had. I can read, understand, and clearly explain material from textbooks to help people understand.

SAT Math

I have always been good in Math getting 3 100s and one 96 in High School Math Regents. I am a retired Civil Engineer and have recently tutored people in algebra and calculus. I am able to clearly explain things.
