Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADHD

I have much experience with teaching students diagnosed with ADHD. I am very good at analyzing an Individual Education Plan (IEP) which helps me create lesson plans that caters to a student's needs. I believe all students can learn and I take this approach with all my students. I will never give up on them and continue to be very patient with my students.

Algebra 1

I've been preparing students for Algebra 1 for over five years. I have also been preparing students for the new Common Core Algebra Regents since its existence.

Algebra 2

I have a B.S. in Mathematics and I have studied far and beyond what it takes to be an exceptional Algebra 2 student. Most roadblocks that get into the way of learning this topic are using the correct formula. My expertise in teaching this topic is to take a complex problem and make it more simple.

Common Core

I undersrand the nuances of the Common Core. I am capable of creating real world examples that help students learn and I also do well at getting students to write well written short responses.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am well versed in all K-6 curriculum. I work well with these grades because I bring enthusiasm to the lesson. Students enjoy working with me because I help them feel more comfortable with the material and it takes away any anxiety they might have in that subject.

Elementary Math

Elementary Math's purpose in education is to build a foundation. The goal is to become a better problem solver using tools given to you by your instructor. I have experience in finding what pieces in this mathematical foundation are missing and I fix any misconceptions that may come up while tutoring.

GED

I have been preparing students to take the GED for several years now. My methods to pass this test are to use everyday resources like newspapers and google for the reading, writing, and social studies portion of the test. For the math and science section of the test, I use various resources to help build a better foundation for my students.

Geometry

I taught Geometry in the classroom for four years. I am very familiar with the New York State Regents exam. Most students struggle with writing proofs, remembering theorems and postulates, and memorizing circle formulas. My method to fix these mistakes is to show students how these topics relate to the world around them.

Logic

Logic is a topic usually taught with Geometry. It is used to help students write proofs and understand the properties of various shapes. In college, I used logic when writing programs for C++. I consider myself very strong in the subject.

Prealgebra

I have been teaching and tutoring Prealgebra for over five years. I am very familiar with the Common Core Curriculum and have had success helping students reach their full potential.

Precalculus

I've been preparing students to be college ready by the time they finish high school. Precalculus is the course needed to assure students will be ready for college level mathematics. This is what I emphasize while preparing students to pass this course.

PSAT

Even though it is not mandatory, all students need to take this exam. I've been preparing students for this exam for several years now and it is a great test to gauge a student's strengths and weaknesses. I also put a huge emphasis on test taking strategy for this exam because I like to create good test taking habits early which help students for future standardized test.

Regents

I am qualified to prepare students for all NYS Math Regents. I currently teach high school and every year I must prepare students to pass this exam. These exams include Integrated Algebra, Geometry and Trigonometry. I am more than qualified to tutor these subjects.

SAT Math

I like to approach the SAT as if it were a puzzle. I comfort students by telling them most of the the material covered in the SAT are topics they have already learned in school. Most importantly, I teach students how to solve problems effectively and use proper time management techniques while taking the test.

Trigonometry

I have over 5 years experience teaching Trigonometry. My methods to teaching this subject is to use the foundations learned in Algebra and Geometry. This allows my students to solve problems confidently.
