Hello! My name is Brooke, and I love to make students feel confident in themselves by bolstering their test scores and enhancing their essays. I have taken the ACT, SAT, and GRE, so I am well versed in the format and the tests as a whole. While my focus in college was English, I can help in math and science as well, as I received a perfect score in the Math and Science section on the ACT.

To get to know a little about my background, I graduated from Oklahoma State University with degrees in English, Spanish, and Geography. Now, I am attending graduate school to obtain my Ph.D. in English Literature from SUNY, Buffalo.

When tutoring, I like to see how the student approaches a question before I impose my methods on them. I think this style of teaching serves to first, understand how the student thinks. And second, it allows me to adapt to their learning style and procedure. I enjoy engaging in a conversation about a subject for the student to best understand the material. It is more important to me that a student can learn a concept rather than fill in bubble or punch in numbers on a calculator. To learn the subject will serve the student in the future and secure their base of knowledge. Therefore, I hope to help your student how they need to be helped and teach the way they like to learn.

I understand the mechanics of the test (all three levels and each section for each) as well as the stakes of the test. I currently specialize in the ACT/SAT/GRE and see this test as the stepping stone to those standardized tests. I have also tutored for the ISEE test before, and been successful.

She helped me through the practice exam book and had a lesson plan to help me through grammar and helped me through the ways to improve on getting the answers correct and how to successfully pick the correct answer quickly.

Brooke and I had a 2 hour session to kick off studying for my GRE. It was very productive. She had problems all ready for us to review and complete. She was able to offer my multiple ways to solve each problem, but more importantly, she was very patient with me. It’s been a long time since I’ve had done this sort of math but she was able to shake off some of the rust to get me started.

Very well-prepared and helpful teacher!

My goal was to raise my SAT essay score and Brooke really helped me with that. Every class she was prepared with sample questions and would walk me through the process of planning the essay. She would also read and grade my practice essays beforehand and help me improve them during our lessons. I learned a lot about how to better structure my writing! I just took the SAT today and feel much more confident about my essay than I did before, thanks to Brooke!
