Buffalo State (Journalism)
I'm a recent college graduate from Buffalo State, currently working full-time as well as writing freelance on the side. Reading and writing have been passions of mine since I was three years old, and I spend a lot of my time reading as much as I can, as well as honing my writing skills in various forms. I believe these two skills are fundamental to excelling both in school and beyond. Effective communication is key to ensuring longtime success.
I am well-versed in persuasive/opinion writing, essay format, creative fiction/nonfiction, journalistic writing/reporting, and poetry. Unfortunately, I do not have a car, so I am limited to places within the city of Buffalo for tutoring. Thanks for your understanding.
My spelling and grammar are impeccable, as is my ability to put together a piece of writing with a clear, concise message. No thesaurus abuse -- you can make a good point and sound educated without throwing in a bunch of words with more than four syllables. :) I am good at working with deadlines, and I am also well-read in a variety of genres. I also have extensive copy writing and proofreading experience, so your essays and papers will never suffer!
If I sound like a good fit for you as a tutor, please shoot me a message. I'd love to help improve your reading and writing skills and get you on the path to your goals! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have extensive proofreading and copy writing experience. Like proofreading, copy writing requires attention to detail and knowledge of spelling, grammar, and punctuation. I have spent over six years doing this, both as editor in chief of my community college's literary magazine and an editor on staff at my four-year school's student-run newspaper.
I have spent the past 20 years writing, both on my own and in school/for work. My Bachelor's degree in Journalism required that I learn the arts of reporting and interviewing and how to incorporate those within my writing; however, I have also been writing creatively since age five, with special attention to poetry. I also took various English electives throughout my educational career in order to strengthen my grasp on writing and writing styles. I am well-versed in MLA and AP Style, and I am familiar with APA and Chicago.
