About Daniel

I am a conservatory-trained composer and pianist, with backgrounds in both classical and jazz music. I specialize in teaching music theory, ear training, composition, aural skills, sight singing, and piano. I have taught over 30 students of widely varying levels and have found it to be a rewarding, fun and instructive experience. I enjoy helping students meet their musical goals, and excel at leading them through each topic or skill in a clear and understandable way. I am very patient and understand that students learn at different paces and have different needs. I am willing to teach anyone, from beginners to experienced professionals.

In my own education, I have focused on gaining as much musical knowledge as possible. I believe that the more subjects one is proficient in, the more one benefits. Increased knowledge and skill leads to a greater understanding of music, and thereby a greater enjoyment of it. This is as true for the professional musician as it is for anyone at any level of music.

I attended Oberlin Conservatory of Music, where I earned my BM in Music Composition, and am currently enrolled in SUNY Buffalo's Ph D Composition program. I have played classical and jazz piano for 18 years. I also attended Los Angeles County High School for the Arts, where I played classical and jazz trombone for 4 years.

I am willing to teach in person and online. Please contact me if you have any questions!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
