I am currently a special education teacher in the Amherst schools, where I have worked as a resource room instructor, co-teacher and an 8:1:3 instructor. I have taught students from K-8th grade. Overall, I have been a teacher for 17 years and have enjoyed working with students with a wide range of skills and abilities. I have been honored as teacher of the year by a PTA organization. I am enthusiastic about learning and guiding students toward individual success.
I have been extensively trained in the Orton Gillingham phonemic program. I have actively and successfully utilized phonemic instruction over the last 13 years in the school environment and when tutoring. I am also very familiar with ELA curriculum used in local schools. I have an understanding of what schools currently expect of students in the areas of reading and vocabulary.
I have worked in the elementary setting for the previous 13 years and have even helped develop spelling programs that are currently being used in the elementary setting.
I specialize in decoding instruction. Students with whom I have tutored have taken significant strides in spelling, reading fluency, reading comprehension and vocabulary. References are available upon request.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a masters in special education. I have been a teacher for the last 17 years. This has included 14 years in Amherst Central Schools. I have tutored students from kindergarten to 8th grade for the last 12 years. I thoroughly enjoy working with these students and have taken pride in their growth.
I am certified in the Orton-Gillingham program. I have used this approach for the last 12 years with a great deal of success. I have seen remarkable improvement in the areas of decoding, spelling and reading fluency through this approach.
