“**Remains knowledgeable and patient**”

Hi! My name is Josh and I currently teach 8th grade math, it is my first year of teaching and I absolutely love it. My bachelor's was completed at UB. I received a degree in mathematics. I then completed my master's degree at UB also, in Mathematics Education. I really enjoy both teaching and tutoring because they allow me to help my students to

Background Check:
Passed

Josh is approved to conduct lessons through Wyzant Online. Wyzant Online allows students and tutors to work remotely via video, audio, and collaborative whiteboard tools. For more information about how online tutoring works, check out Wyzant Online.

If you’re interested in online lessons, message Josh to get started.

Josh continues to be very helpful to my daughter in a kind and patient manner, and also helps with math in other subjects (science). I recommend him with no reservations.

Josh was very knowledgable, and my grandson liked him a lot immediately, a huge plus for us seeing he is very shy & doesn't open up easily. We are looking forward to seeing him again knowing he will do all he can to help

This was our first experience with a tutor. Josh worked well with our daughter, was able to relate with her and in her words "taught me so that I could understand it". We are looking forward to more sessions and look forward to good results.

Approved subjects are in **bold**.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I am currently an 8th grade math teacher, a pre-algebra class. This provides me with the experience and the knowledge base to help students with algebra topics. Algebra 1 is similar to 8th grade topics, but a little more advanced. I can use my background knowledge to help students relate the algebra concepts to topics that they already understand.

As a student teacher last year I taught the Common Core Algerbra II curriculum to juniors. This allowed me to see what the common core lessons look like and how they approach the concepts in the Algebra II class. I also have a good idea of which topics students will struggle with.

In my coursework for my Master's degree I took a class on teaching elementary math, this allowed me to see how students are being taught while in elementary school. My first student teaching placement was in a 7th grade classroom, which gave me a good idea of what students have learned up to that point and how they have learned those concepts.

My bachelor's degree is in mathematics where I was required to take 2 upper level geometry courses. I also teach basic geometry concepts to my 8th graders which are the basis to a high school geometry course.

I am currently teaching 8th grade and working with pre algebra topics on a daily basis. I also have experience teaching algebra which will help to prepare your son or daughter for next year in math.

I have spent the past 2 years as a Teaching Assistant for the UB Gifted Math program, Working with students on pre-calculus concepts. In addition, I have taken pre-calculus and calculus classes in the past as a mathematics major.

As a former math major and a current math teacher I have worked with any material that could be seen on the math sections of the SAT. I have also taken and studied for the SAT which has shown the how SAT questions are worded and the point values for each of them.

As a teaching assistant for the UB gifted math program I have worked with high school students in a trigonometry course for 2 years. As a math major I also have taken trigonometry courses in the past. My second student teaching placement also took place in an algebra II/trigonometry classroom so I have experience teaching the material.
