Judith M. is qualified to teach adults or children of any age with her BA in English & Italian and her MS in Education. She is also Montessori & NYS certified. Judith has taught Italian at State University College, Buffalo, Daemen College and for 20 years at Williamsville's Community Ed. program. Judi taught Italian to 600 Pre-K-8th graders at Buffalo Public Montessori school for over 21 years where she grew the Italian program from zero to fill the entire school of 600 students. She designed and has run Nazareth College’s Italian Language and Culture Camp in Rochester since its inception 21 years ago. In '08 she started and runs the Italian Camp at Daemen College, as well.
Judith won and was consultant for a $500,000 US Government FLAP grant for Italian. She was an Italian Regents Exam writer for the NY State Education Department for 15 years. In ‘02, Judi won the NYS AIAE “Educator of the Year” Award. Judith also won a “National Endowment for Humanities Fellowship” for Italian political-literary research; and teaching awards to study at the Italian Universities of Perugia, Siena in Italy, and two others to the National Foreign Language Resource Center at U. of Iowa. She was named “Outstanding Foreign Language Teacher of W.N.Y," “Italian-American Woman of the Year” and is in "Who's Who In Teaching."
Judith has taught workshops at Local, National, and International teacher conferences, and published teaching manuals, articles, Italian plays, translations, her own Arts in Buffalo newspaper, her own Italian American Journal – the region's only Italian bilingual newspaper. Her Italian children's chorus sang for Sophia Loren, for National Italian TV who flew to Buffalo from Italy to film them; for the local Baseball team, for the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, and for NYS Governor Cuomo who conducted them as they sang in Italian. Professional articles of Judi's have been printed by AJFLT, NYSAFLT, the NYS Ed Department, the American Montessori Association and by John's Hopkins University. Her 2 teaching DVDs sell nationally. During the school year Judi M. teaches Italian to many happy students at her thriving home studio in Williamsville, NY. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
