SUNY University at Buffalo (Computer Science)
Hi, I am a current student at SUNY Buffalo who recently left the U.S. Army to finish my degree and start a family with my wife. I have tutored drumming and fitness, and I have found that I connect with students very well. While I'm only 22, I offer many years above my age of experience, which makes the connection of student to tutor much more personal and easy.
I am a musician who has been playing drums for 14 years. I offer lessons on snare from beginner to advanced and on drum set from very beginner to much more advanced. I will teach to your playing style. I was in various bands in high school, including jazz, pit, and traditional orchestra. I know that many musicians strive to play to a certain niche in the music world. While teaching the basics is necessary to transition to any form you desire, I can cater to your wants. I am a seasoned rock and metal drummer and I can help you find your own path into that world and aid you along the way.
I taught fitness while I was in the Army and continue to do so to my peers. I would like to work with people who may not know exactly where to start or how. It makes me happy to take that stigma of "gym fear" away for people who think they aren't in shape enough to go to the gym. Everyone is in shape enough to change their body, whether they want to lose five pounds by walking every other day or make a big lifestyle change and get more out of life.
Outside of those two past experiences of teaching, I am also a knowledgeable about drawing (charcoal, lead, ink, mixed media), Reading and writing has been a hobby of mine since I was 10, and have helped some friends with public speaking.
My tutoring methods, no matter what the subject, cross over to each other. I believe that hands-on instruction and being personable are key in any learning environment. I'm not there to show you how much more I know than you or intimidate you like some teachers inadvertently do. I just want to show you what I know so that you can have more confidence in a given field, and so you can carry that throughout our lessons. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
