Hello Parents/ Students,

My name is Matthew. As a recent college graduate from Niagara University, I hope to achieve my goal of providing a better future for upcoming generations. For 4 years, I studied many subjects so that I may meet the various needs of students and perspective learners.

I specifically studied the methods and theories of ESL or English as a Second Language instruction so that I may provide those that are moving into the United States a way to learn the largest and most difficult language in the world, English.

During my student teaching and various tutoring experiences, I have worked with students from diverse backgrounds. Also, I've constructed lessons that have touched upon various content topics so that I provided students with the knowledge they needed for inside and outside the classroom.

Also, I took courses in European and American History, giving me a deeper and more developed comprehension of the high school and elementary concepts being taught in schools. Within high school and some of college, I kept a focus on math because it is a very complex and important concept for ESL and native students in this country. I strive to answer questions about any and every topic. If I don't know the answer at hand, I research the topic on my own time so I may provide my students with the correct information. I hope to here from you soon.

Sincerely,
Matthew S.

History

American History,

American History

During high school and most of my college years, I took a deep interest in American history because it was the most fascinating topic for me. From the American Revolution, to the Louisiana Purchase, to the Industrial Revolution, to the roaring twenties; I researched various topics about different groups. I even used this research to back-up different history lessons I gave during my student teaching experience.
European History,

European History

During my studies as an undergraduate, I took history as a content specific focus. I studied European history from Ancient Greece to later years of the French Revolution. I also developed lessons to teach students the importance of history and how it has influenced today's culture.
Geography

Geography

During both high school and college, I took classes that taught and tested my knowledge about states, countries, terrain, international affairs, and the importance of resources that affected the politics of the country. I even taught some of these aspects of geography to high school students when we talked about historical events, such as civil and international wars, so that they could gain a deeper grasp of how countries won and lost.

In my freshman year of high school, I excelled at my Algebra 1 class. I got A's on nearly every test and quiz that my teacher gave. I also just loved to random math problems with variables and fractions during lunch. Eventually, I went on to join the Math League for my high school. We didn't win anything but, I enjoyed it nonetheless.

During my senior in high school, I was also part of the Math League as well. My team and I would compete against other schools in topics like statistics, geometry, algebra, and calculus.

Track & Field

Since my freshman year of high school when I was track and field athlete to the present time where I am an assistant coach, I have had a great admiration for this sport. I have partaken in many events that have expanded that appreciation for the sport. I also do my best to take care of my body by eating healthy. I also give the same tips that I use to my athletes so that they may perform their best.
