Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Clarinet

I've worked in both the public and private school sectors, as well as private lessons on guitar, piano, recorder and all the woodwind and brass instruments. I use the Essential Elements 2000 book series, as well as other supplementary materials. I have sent dozens of children to NYSSMA Solo Festivals and achieved high scores. I will work with you or your child to develop a solid foundation of musical knowledge and both fun and efficient practice techniques in order to reach their musical goals.

Ear Training

As a singer and instrumentalist, I studied ear training throughout high school, college and beyond. I use a variety of methods including the Gordon Method, which approaches musical reading using syllables. With private lessons, students are able to develop an "ear" for music, translating what they cannot hear from a piece of sheet music into the language of musical sound.

Piano

I have taught piano for over 10 years to children and adults ranging from age four to 70 years old. I work well with all levels and am able to find materials that motivate students to learn and practice independently. I have a degree in music education from SUNY Fredonia and have taught in the school and private lesson sectors. My goal is for the student to have success and become an independent learner. I use a variety of methods to help reach this goal, including the use of technology and popular music.

Public Speaking

As a theatre coach, President of a community theatre company and Creative Director of an educational company, I have helped students strengthen their public speaking skills by developing different types of expression, the ability to be resourceful, the use of humor, and finding commonality with their target audience. Using a variety of teaching and learning techniques, I can coach students to become confident and prolific public speakers.

Saxophone

I have taught saxophone to children and adults in schools and privately. I studied music education at SUNY Fredonia and mastered a variety of learning and teaching techniques. I am able to help all my students achieve their musical goals.

My adult students sometimes feel they are unable to learn because they compare themselves to children and their abilities, however adults are able to conceptualize much better. There is a large variety of music that available that I can arrange as well.

Theatre

As a Producer and Director for different theatre companies, I've directed plays and musicals including both children and adults. I privately coach students on how to act and prepare for auditions, whether it be community theatre, a school production or a college audition. I can help students determine the best way to develop their theatre resume, take appropriate head shots and strengthen their acting skills. I also coach students in musical theatre, preparing them on Broadway standards. I used a variety of repertoire and resources so students can develop through positive instruction and using constructive practice techniques at home.

Voice (Music)

As an alto and soprano vocalist, I know a large variety of repertoire from jazz standards to Broadway show tunes to Popular music. I teach private lessons and direct children and adult vocal ensembles which include vocal warm-ups, workouts and care for the voice. My students learn to sight-read using the Solfege Method (Do-Re-Mi) and Gordon Method (rhythmic reading).
