Welcome! My name is Jess, and I'd love to teach you! I am a graduate of the College at Brockport, SUNY, with a degree in math and certifications to teach math grades 5-12 and special education 7-12. I recently finished my Master's Degree in Differentiated Instruction at Canisius College which has made me even more prepared to tailor lessons to students' individual needs. I currently teach Geometry and Algebra 2 at a suburban Catholic high school. I have been tutoring for ten years and have experience with all levels of mathematics as well as test prep. I am passionate about helping students understand mathematics and helping them achieve where they were previously struggling. My tutoring methods are tailored to each student, and can include, but are not limited to, quizzes, flashcards, test question walkthroughs, re-teaching, and homework help.

We thought Jessica did a wonderful job with preparing our son for his SAT test. He told me that she explained things to him that made him understand a lot better than the tutors we had in the past. I would highly recommend her as a tutor. We hope to use her again to help Matt with other subjects that he may be struggling in in the future as well as our other 2 children.
Jessica is extremely knowledgeable and effective. She explains things clearly and goes the extra mile to ensure that you understand the topics being reviewed. I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a math tutor.
Jessica takes the time to understand what material is the most challenging to the student and works to ensure individual learning occurs.
I appreciate all the knowledge Jess has and the way she is able to help the girls get up to speed with their math. I can tell that they work hard for her and she keeps them on their toes. Thanks Jess!
Jess was easy to connect with, accommodating, on time, ready and relaxed. She and my daughter cruised through a homework lesson that sent my daughter off with confidence to take-on more in the week ahead. Jess made this process a breeze and well worth the investment for my daughter's junior year.
We hired Jessica to work with our son to help prep for his first SAT exam. He is not strong in algebra. Jessica was great! She didn't let him off the hook and kept challenging him to show his work and think through the problems. She was patient and did a very thorough job with him. Hoping his test score reflects that.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I find that basic algebra skills are integral to success throughout high school, so in tutoring algebra 1 students I focus on not just process but content as well, so that students have the knowledge and confidence to tackle more difficult algebraic problems in their later years in school.
I am a New York State certified math teacher, grades 5-12. I am currently teaching the new Algebra 2 Common Core course. I find that students have the most difficulty in this course with their basic algebra skills, so I focus on them in my tutoring.
Geometry is my favorite mathematical discipline, as it is so relevant and useful in the world. I also enjoy teaching and learning about the rich history of geometry. I am also currently teaching the course.
I have two years' experience teaching seventh and eighth grade math, so I am very familiar with this curriculum. Middle school mathematics is my favorite level to teach, as the curriculum allows for a lot of exploration of mathematical ideas and time to build basic math skills. My focus in tutoring students at this level is to build their basic skills and challenge them to rely less on a calculator so that they may have success in mathematics in all of their years at school.
I have had six previous students whom I prepared for the SAT. My focus in mathematics for the SAT is on problem-solving skills and breaking down complex problems into manageable pieces, as I feel this is a skill not taught well enough in our schools. As a state certified mathematics teacher for grades 5 through 12, I am very familiar with the mathematical concepts on the SAT and the ways in which SAT phrasing differs from what our students see in school.
I have prepared six students for the SAT. Each student has different areas of need when it comes to SAT preparation, so my methods are tailored to the areas where they could use the most improvement, based on an initial analysis of their skills. In reading preparation, most students need to focus on vocabulary as opposed to critical reading skills, so I have used flashcards, short passages, novels, and articles to improve vocabulary.
As a New York State certified math teacher, grades 5-12, I am very comfortable with this curriculum. I am currently teaching the Algebra 2 Common Core course. I find that many students are lacking in their basic algebra skills, so I focus on these while supporting students where they are in the curriculum.
