To Whom It May Concern:
My name is Andrew M. I'm a first year Philosophy PhD Student at SUNY Buffalo. I am principally and professionally concerned with education. This concern extends beyond my personal development. For four years I was an assistant debate coach at Mead High School in Spokane, WA. In this position I had continuous experience teaching, lecturing and tutoring various levels of high school students. My role often times was to promote critical thinking and the confidence to do well in public speaking. The time spent at Mead convinced me of the importance of tutoring these secretly motivated teenagers and bringing their intellectual promise to full fruition. I am sadly no longer involved in the high school debate community, but the gap it has left in my life is unexpectedly prevalent. I would like to offer my services and help tutor in any way possible. I feel I can offer a unique vision when it comes to standardized high school testing. I did well enough to receive scholarships, but made many studying mistakes along the way. My experience can help high school students, and my willingness to teach and patience to listen should make such experience an asset.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I was one of the most successful collegiate and high school debaters in the nation. I qualified for nationals in public speaking (extemporaneous speaking) and finished 16th in policy debate. I coached and mentored for over 7 years, including coaching a team to an 11th place finish at high school nationals in 2010. I have also been a participant in multiple debate camps with experience in teaching speaking skills (along with other skills such as research, argumentation and note taking).
